To all whom it may concernf u Be it known thatl, RALr'n M, SHAM a States, and a'resident of the borough of the Bronx, in the city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Zigzag Mechanism for Sewing Machines, of which the following'is a specification.
The present invention relates to zig-zag mechanism forsewing machines, and more particularly sewing machines of the two needle type. It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved zig-zag mechanism operable primarily by spiral gears, and with which the hooks or loopers will be accurately and synchronously operated in connection with the wig zag'ging of the needles.
lVith these and other objects in Vie-W, an embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings,,and. this embodiment will be more fully described hereinafter' with reference thereto, and vention will be finally pointed out in the claims;

A. zig-zag mechanism for sewing ma chines, comprising a needle, means for imparting thereto a longitudinal reciprocation and a lateral movement, a looper cooperating with said needle and mounted to turn about an axis extending lengthwise with reference to the needle, a support inwhich said looper is j ournaled and which is mounted to swing about an axis intersecting the one about which the looper turns, and means for rocking said support to shift the looper laterally in correspondence to the lateral movements of the needle.
5. A zig-Zag mechanism for sewing machines, comprising a needle, means for imparting thereto a vertical reciprocation and a lateral movement, a looper cooperating with said needle, an upright shaft to the up-.
per portion of which said looper is secured,
looper-driving mechanism connected with the lower portion of said shaft, asupport in which said shaft is journaled, mounted to swing about a horizontal axis located below the looper but above the driving connection at the lower portion of said shaft, and means for rocking said support to shift the looper laterally in correspondence to the lateral movements of the needle. 6. A zigzag mechanism for sewing machines, comprising a needle, means for imparting zigzag movement to the needle, means for reciprocating the needle, a looper for cooperation with said needle, means for rotating the said looper twice for each up and down movement of the needle, pivoted means for supporting said looper, a cam shaft, reciprocating means engaging the said cam shaft and adapted to have to and fro movement, means. on said reciprocating means engaging said pivoted means and adapted to-move the same about the pivots thereof-during the to and fro movement of said reciprocating-means to move the said looper synchronously with the zigzag movement of the needle, the axis of rotatlonof the looper moving ina vertical plane.

A zig-zag mechanism forsewing machines, comprising a needle, means for imparting zig-zag movement pivoted means supporting said looper, a reciprocating member, means for intermittent- 1y reciprocating said reciprocating member vertically, and means inclined to the direction of movement ofsaid reciprocating member and actuated by the movement of said reciprocating member and adapted to pivotally move the said. supporting means of the looper; '8. A zig-zag mechanism for sewing ma chines, comprising a needle,rmeans for imparting thereto a longitudinal reciprocation and a lateral movement transversely to the line of feed of the work, a looper cooperating with said needle, a pivoted support in which said looper is journ'aled, a reciprocating member, and means on said reciprocating-member to engage the pivoted support and rock the same on its pivot trans versely to the line of feed of the work to move the looper in correspondence to the lateral movement of the needle, the central axis of said looper being movable in a vertical plane during said rocking movement.

A zig-zag mechanism for sewing ma-' chines, comprising a needle, means for imparting thereto a longitudinal reciprocation and a lateral movement transversely to the line of feed of the work, a looper cooperating with said needle, a pivoted support in which said looper is journaled, a reciprocating member, and cooperating portions on said support and on said member, having an effective line of action disposed obliquely to the path of said memben'to rock said sup-- port on its pivot transversely to the line of feed of the work and movethe looper in correspondence to the lateral movement of the needle,the central axis of said looper,
