EDWAD ECKE, 0F LUS ANGELES, CALIORNA aarareaaarea.
Application tiled march 1922. serial No. tarwe.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that li, EDWARD Ecm., a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Refrigerators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to refrigerators of the type generally used for household purposes, the principal objects of my invention being to generally improve uponand slmplify the construction of the existing forms of household refrigerators, to provlde slmple and convenient mea'ns for taking care of the Water resulting from the melting of the ice stored within the ice chamber of the refrigerator, to provide for a free circulation of air from the storage chambers of the refrigerator through the ice chamber and further, to provide a refrigerator that may be easily and cheaply produced.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear and while l have shown and will describe my preferred form of com struction, l wish it to be understood that l do not limit myself to such preferred form, for various changes and adaptations may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention as hereinafter claimed.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a refrigerator of my improved con struction.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
F-ig. 4 is a perspective view of a drip pan supporting bracket that is utilized in my improve-d refrigerator.
Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken through the end of the drip discharge spout.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings 10 designates the body of the refrigerator, said body being composed of side, front, rear and bottom walls, all of which are preferably lined with sheet metal 11. The top of the body of the refrigerator is closed by a hinged lid or cover 12, and that portion-of the space with the refrigerator body immediately below said lid constitutes an ice chamber 13.
Extending inwardly from the walls of the body 10 at the bottom of chamber 13 are downwardly inclined drip flanges 14 of metal and removably arranged on said Hanges is a rack 15, preferably of heavy wire screen that serves as a support for the ice that 1s stored in chamber 13.
Secured to the walls of the body 10 imme 60 diately beneath the flanges 1d are bloclm or brackets 16, preferably of wood, and which are notched as desi nated by 17 to receive the edges of a sha1 ow drip pan 18.
Depending from this pan near one end is an outlet tube 19 that discharges directly into the u per end of a drain tube 20, and the latter eading through the side wall of the refrigerator body. Pivotally mounted near the outer end of drain tube 20 is an 70 g outwardl opening gravity closed valve 21 that is esigned to act automatically, an
open under the weight of a small amount of water within the drain tube and to close by gravity, thereby preventing air from entering the refrigerator through the drain tube.
Removably suspended on the sidey of the refrlgerator body below the dischar e end ofthe drain tube is a receptacle 22 t at receives the water that passes from the re- S0 frigerator through said drain tube.
The space within the refrigerator body below the drip pan constitutes a storage chamber for food stuffs and the like and said space may be divided into one or more compartments by removable partitions 23 that are formed of wire screen or perforated sheet metal.
The` blocks or brackets 16 are arranged so as to provide ample space between the edges of the drip pan 18 and the walls of the refrigerator body and consequently permitting m0 a free circulation of air between the ice and food storage chambers.
