FEED VALVE.

T 0 all `whom t may concern Be it known that I, BENJOHN F CRIsnN- BERRY, a citizen or the United States, residing at Kokomo, in the county of Howard and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Feed Valve, of which the following is a speciiication.
rlhis invention aims to provide a simple but efficient means whereby a drop-by-drop feed may be provided, at places where lubrication is desired, or' elsewhere.
1t is within the province or' the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the util-- ity or' devices ot that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement o' parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be mace without departing from the s Jirit of the invention. Figure 1 shows in vertical transverse section, a device constructed in accordance with the invention7 parts appearing in elevation; Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 3-*3 of Figure 1.
The numeral 1 denotes an oil tank. The numeral 2 marks a combined oil reservoir and float chamber, which is a composite structure, the same including a base 3 and a lid 4, the base 3 being threaded at into the lid 4, the members 4 and 3 having cooperating flanges 6. between which is located a packing 7, affording a tight joint, the base 3 being removable to give access to the interior or the reservoir and chamber 2. At its lower end, the base 8 carries a nozzle 8 having a bore 9 leading upwardly to a conical seat 10 in the upper end of the nozzle. The upper end of the nozzle projects as at 11 above the bottom of the base 3. The lid 4 is supplied with a reduced neck 12. The neck 12 is mounted in the bottom of the oil tank 1 and is secured thereto in any suitable way, as shown at 14.
The numeral 15 designates a regulating stem including a tubular body 16 mounted to slide in a collar 17 on the top of the oil tank 1, the body carrying a turning head 18 provided with a vent 19. At its lower end, the

bod 16 carries a toot 20 or' appreciable thickness, the foot being threaded at 21 into the neck 12. The foot 2O is s pplied with a reducedv opening 22 leading to an inverted conical seat 23 which is formed in the toot. The body 16 has a circuinscribing recess 24 in which filtering n'iaterial 25 may be located, the member 16 having pert'orations 26, located in the base of the recess 24, the filtering material 25 extending across the openings. An air conduit 27 is mounted at its lower end in the toot 20 ot' the regulating stem lo and extends upwardly, to a point adj accnt to the turning head 18, and well above any level which the oil can possibly attain in the. body 16. v
A float 28, preferably hollow, is located in the float chamber 2 and carries a valve rol` 29 having a pointed lower end 3U cooperating with the seat 10, the valve rod being provided with a pointed upper end 31 cooperating with the seat In practical operation, oil enters the reservoir 2 from the oil tank 1, through the liltering material 25 and through the openings 26, the oil fiowing through the opening 22 in the Jfoot 20, and through the seat 29, the oil leaving by way of the seat 10 and the bore 9. Responding to gravity, the 'Ho-at 28 moves downwardly, the end 30 of the valve rod 29 closing on the seat 10. Buoyed upwardly by the oil delivered drop by drop into the reservoir 2, the float 28 moves upwardly, the end 31 of the valve rod 29 cooperating with the seat 23. Thus, a dropby-drop feed through the bore 9 is secured. The vertical movement of the float 28 and the valve rod 29 may be adjusted by raising or lowering the regulating stein 15, it being observed that the lower end or foot 2O of the stem is threaded at 21 into the neck 12. Sediment finding its way into the base 3 of the reservoir 2 Will accumulate about the projecting portion 11 of the nozzle 8 and will be prevented from passing into the bore 9.
Air can enter the fioat chamber 2 by way of the conduit 27 and the vent 19, and, therefore, the float 28 will operate independently of any conditions which might arise it the float were called upon to operate in vacuo. The threaded joint at 21 is so located that there can be no leakage through the joint, to a point external to the device. Owing to the fact that the filtering material 25 is located in the circumscribing recess 24, the

Thedevice is so constructed that it Will secure a steady flow or leed o' the lubricant. The vertical movement of the float 28 and the valve at 29 serves to facilitate the flow ot' oil and to prevent the accumulation of a gummy film on th@ ends of the valve rod or upon the seats 23 and l0.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is l. A. combined oil reservoir and float chamber including a cup-shaped base and a do1ne-shaped lid screwed one into the other, and having cooperating flanges to abut when the parts are assembled, said lid having a centra-l opening with an internally threaded collar surrounding it, a tubular stem having a lioot threaded in said collar and provided with a central opening flared outwardly, said base having a bore extending centrally therethrough, and flared inwardly, a float in said chamber having stems extending Yfrom its opposite Afaces and provided With cone-shaped valves to tit the seats formed in said foot and base, said tubular member being adjustable to control the opening in the base.

A combined oil reservoir and float chamber including a cup-shaped base and a dome-shaped lid screwed one into the other, and having cooperating flanges to abut When the parts are assembledsaid lid having a central opening with an internally threaded collar surrounding it, a tubular stem having a foot threaded in said collar and provided with a central opening ared outwardly, said base having a bore extending centrally therethrough and iiared inwardly, a float in said chamber having stems extending from its opposite 'faces and provided with cone-snaped valves to tit the seats formed in said toot and base, said tubular member being adjustable to control the opening in the base, said foot having a pipe opening therethrough and extending upwardly into said tube, said tubular stem being provided with a plurality ot inlet openings and equinped With a removable apertured head.
