OIL BURNER.

To aZZ w Ito m it may concern Be it known that we, MINNIAFFEE J. Janene and Bonner J. CoWnLL, citizens of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil Burners, of
which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in oil burners and one object is to provide a device of this character having but few parts which are not likely to get out of order and can be manufactured and marketed at small cost.
A further object is to provide a burner in whichkerosene, distillate and other hy drocarbon oils may be economically consumed andwherein eilicient'combustion is had, so that saidburner will not become clogged with carbon, or other waste elements present in the fuel.
Other objects will hereinafter appear, and in order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:

In carrying out the invention, we employ a generating chamber 2 which maybe oi relatively oblong shape as shown to fit in the fire box of a stove, or it may be circular to fit within the fire box of a furnace. The upper portion of said generating chamher 2 has a marginal flange l which forms a shallow basin 6 in the upper portion of the chamber 2.
8 designates a relatively short pipe connected to the upper portion of the generating chamber 2 through the intermediacy of a bushing 10, the upper end of said pipe 8 being equipped with a T-fitting 12 to which a feed pipe 14 is connected through the intermediacy of a return fitting 16.
18 designates a burner in the form of a pipe connected at one end to the T-fitting 12 and closed at its opposite end'by suitible means such as a cap 20. Theburner 18 is provided at its under portion with a discharge orifice 22 turned downwardly towards the chamber 2 and the feed pipe 1a.
In practice oil is admitted to the generat in chamber 2 through the feed pipe 14, the
return fitting 16, the T-fitting 12, and the pipe 8, and a small quantity is permitted to flow from the orifice22 into the basin chamber 2 and thereby heating the same and continuing the process of vaporizing the fuel oil as it enters said chamber 2. iisthe fuel oil is heavier than they vapor it descends into the generating chamber 2 through the pipe 8, while at the same time the vapor being lighter than the. oil, ascends through said pipe. 8 and enters the burner- 18 from which it is discharged through the orifice 22, as above stated. The heat produced by the .fiame is so intense that the supply of oil.
flowing throughthe feed'pipe 1% may be reducedto a minimum without danger of the flame becoming extinguished, and hence a saving in'fuel may be effected in mild weather when considerable heat is not required. Economy is also had from the fact that the oil in the generating chamber 2'is reduced to a highly heated vaporbetorc escaping from the orifice 22 in the burner 18, thereby eliminating the waste which accompanies the burning of more or less of the fuel oil in liquid form.
From the'foregoingdescription it will be understood thatwe have produced a burner embodyingthe' advantages above pointed out, and while we haveshown and described the preferred form of our burner, .we reserve the right to make such changes as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the character described conisting of a; generating chamber having a basin at its upper portion; a dual oil and vapor pipe connected to said chamber, a feed pipe connected to the first-mentioned pipe, and a burner also connected to the firstxnent-ioned pipe and having an orifice directed toward the chamber.
2. A device of the character described consisting of a generating chamber, a-Vpipe feed pipe extending over the chamber and natures, in the presence of two witnesses. connected to the upper portion of the first mentioned pipe, and another pipe connect- 7.
