Referring now to Figs. 1 and 2 l provide a disk 10 rotatably mounted on a split stud 11 fixed on a bracket 12 having a channeled base element 13 adapted to' engage` the edge of a table or other support, indicated at 14, the bracket being fixed on the table by a screw 15. i
The disk 10 is provided with a series of radially extending knives 17 located adjacent slots 18 therein. These knives may be formed by sharpening integral elements struck out from the disk, or may be separately constructed and fixed in any suitable manner on the disk.
The disk 10 is adapted to be rotated by means of a pin wheel 20 xed on ashaft 21 journaled in the bracket 12, the pins of the wheel engaging in holes 22 in the disk, the shaft 21 having a crank handle 23 thereon whereby it may be manually rotated. The split 'stud 11 is here arranged to form four hooked prongs 24 having upwardly diverg- 'l ing adjacent .sides andpassing through a central aperture in the disk, the disk being ren'ioved when desired by first pressing'tl'ie prongs` together.

The latter is provided with a channeled element'40 and clamping screw 41. Extending" yhori- Zonta-ily yunder the 'disk` 30'is ar shaft 43 on `fiat circular head 50 loose on a spindle 51 fixedrto an angular arm 52 removably secured to the bracket'37 by bolts 53, the perimeter of the head 50 passing closely adjacent that of the wheel 32, and being formed with a number of pockets 54. Fixed coaxially to the head 50 is a bevel gear 55 meshing with a smaller gear 56 on the shaft 43.
When the nut-cracking attachment is to be used the slideblock 35 vis positioned to cause the pin-wheel 44 to engage the larger crown gear 46, and the angular arm 52, on which the head 50 and gear 55 are permanently mounted, is attached to the bracket 37, with gear 55 meshing with the gear 56 on shaft 43l The nuts to be cracked are placed in the pockets 54 and are cracked by being compressed between the latter and the rim of wheel 32 as the wheel and head are rotated by turning a crank GO, on shaft 43, the different gears being preferably so proportioned as to cause the outer faces of the nuts, which project beyond the pockets, to be moving at the approximate peripheral. speed of the wheel 32.
When the nut-cracking attachment is not needed the arm 52 is removed, and the slideblock 35 is adjusted to bring the small crown gear 45 into engagement with the pin wheels 4:4:
In Fig. 5 Ihave shown a modified form of slicing element comprising a disk 10 having cutting elements 17 arranged in radial rows, these cutting elements being formed by pressing out tongues to leave slots 18. This form of cutting element is particularly useful when a grinding or grating action is desired.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6 a disk 1()a is provided with knives 1"a which differ from the knives 17 only in being crescent shaped instead of straight, slots 18"t being provided adjacent the knives, with this construction a shearing action of the knives on the material is obtained.
Having kthus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to ters Patent of the United States is as follows:-
1. A device of the class described comprising a heavy rimmed wheel, a bracket,
.small crown gears,
protect by Letsupporting said wheel, a rotary head supported by said bracket adjacent said wheel and having a number of pockets in its perimeter, a shaft adapted to rotate said wheel and head, slicer elements carried by said wheel, and means whereby said `shaft may be caused to drive said wheel at relatively fast or slow speeds. v

A device of the class described comprising a wheel, slicing means carriedthere` by, large and small crown gears formed on said wheel, a rotary head detachably mounted adjacent said wheel and having a pocket in its perimeter, ashaft extending under said head and wheel, gear connections between said shaft and head, a pin wheel on said shaft adapted to engage either of said large and and a bracket carrying said iirst wheel and adjustable longitudinally of said shaft to bring either of said crown wheel.
3. A device of the class described comprising a wheel, slicing means carried thereby,
a rotary nut cracker adapted to be removably mounted adjacent the'rim of the wheel to work in co-operation therewith, a shaft adapted to rotate said wheel and said nut cracker element, and means whereby said wheel may be driven at relatively fast or slow speeds by said shaft.
