This invention relates to improvement in saw join'ters, that is, a device for holding afile in proper position to coact with the edge Oi?" the saw in jointing the same, the object oi the invention being a simple ar rangement, whereby an ordinary, threemn'nered tile may be firmly held in proper position, and. the invention consists in the. construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a strip 5 of spring sheet metal, the central portion of which is longitudinally bowed and formed with a longitudinal slot 6. i The ends 7 and 8 are turned downward and 5 formed with triangular holes 9 and 10, corresponding to the size of the file 11 to be used, and entering theends and intersecting the holes are slots 12 and 13.
- To insert a file, the ends 7 and 8 are pressedjtoward each other, so as to bring the holes 9 and it} into alignment, and so that the filemay be passed through the holes withone of itsflat :faces downward, the slot 6 giving clearance for the upper edge of the file. When the file is properly inserted, the ends are released, and as they spring outward they come to a bearing. on the file,
which is therebyfirmly gripped. A saw is ointed in the usual way by inserting it into the slots 12 and 13 and moving the saw or moving the joint'er back and forth so as e to true the cutting-edge.
This device is easily formedby stamping,
and thus can be produced at very low cost and can be used with any suitable file.
l claim: H a A saw 3011li6i' iormedglrom a single strip of spring sheet metal, the central portion of which is longituifiinally-slotted and bowed, the ends of the strip formed with triangular 6O openings and with slots entering the ends of the strip and intersectingthe said openings.
illn testimony whereof, Ihave signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. i
