- LANDING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. F. Honz, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake, and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Landing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in airships, the general object of the invention being to facilitate landin of the ship by reducing the speedby shi ting the wings.
Another object of the invention is to provide manually operated means for shifting the wings.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafterfully described illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts in the, several views, and in which In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a ship provided with my invention.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the parts in a different position.
Figure 4 is an end view with parts in section.
As shown in these views, I pivot the front portions of the wings I to the-uprights 2 and I connect the rear ends of the wings together by the movable uprights 3 which are pivoted to the wings, as shown at 4;. A shaft 5 is supported at each end of the uprights 3, said shaft having cranks 6 the ends which are connected together by the links 7 so that the movement of one shaft will be communicated to the other. The lower shaft is adapted to be rocked by the hand lever 8. The shafts carry spools 9 to which are secured the Wires 10 the other ends of the wires being connected with the front portions of the wings.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when the handle is in one position the wires 10 connected with the lower shaft will be shortened by being wrapped around the spools so that the rear ends of the wings Will be swung upwardlyand thus the Wings will offer the least resistance to the passage of the ship through the air. WVhen the lever is swung over the Wires 10 connected therewith the lower end will be slackened and the other wires shortened so that the rear ends of the wings will be lowered and in this position the wings will offer resistance to the passage of the ship through the air and thus slackening the speed of the ship through the air to facilitate the landing of the ship.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be undestood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is An airship having its wings pivoted to their supports at the front ends, movable means for connecting the rear ends of the wings together, and means for adjusting the movable means vertically to change the inclination of the wings, such means consisting of drums mounted on the rear po1- tion of the wings, cables connected with the drums and with the diagonally opposite front portions of the wings and manually operated means for actuating the drums.
