Be it known that we, LoUIs 'lo'rn, COLO- MAN Konrvns, and Fnnnn Srnmrrnnn, a citizen of the United Eltates, and citizens of Hungary, respectively, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Jacquard Mechanism for (lircular-linitting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
One object of our said invention is the provision of a simple, reliable and efficient jacquard feedingmechanism for circular knitting machines.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved drum construction.
Another obj act, is the provision of an inn proved cylinder construction.
To the atta inment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

The machine base is designated by 3, and in the same is seated a table 2 designed to be rotated by the ordinary or any other ap propriate means not of our invention, and, therefore, not shown.
Fixed with respect to and movable with the table 2 are cams 1a and 16 relatively arranged as shown in Figures 1 and 5.

The said slidable bars carry a hen agonal roller 29, preferably of wood, and providedwith sockets 29, Figures 1 and 8, the roller 29 being arranged between the bars and the trunnions at the ends of the rollers being journaled in the said bars 28. Una of the said trunnions has fined thereto a ratchet wheel 86 for cooperation with a pat-v1 35 mounted and relatively arranged as shown in Figure2 on one of the brackets 27. Manifestly when deemed expedient it is within the purview of our invention to duplicate the said ratchet mechanism at the opposite end of the roller 29.

Appropriately guided in a housing 1 fixed on the base 3 an endwise movable radially-disposed plunger 18. it the inner end of said plunger 18 is an anti-friction roller or wheel 15 arranged to cooperate with the cam 16, the said cam 16 being so arranged, relatively to the cam 14, that the plunger 18 will be moved inwardly immediately prior to the rocking of the lever 17 by the cooperation of the cam it with the roller or wheel 13. The plunger 18 is moved inwardly against the action of a spring 19 in the housing 17 and interposed between the inner end of said housing and an abutment 18 on plunger 18. Movable by the plunger 18 is a vertically swinging arm 21, fixed with respect to a rocking bar 25, Figures 1, 5, 8 and 9. The said rocking bar 25 is mounted to rock in brackets 22 on the base 3, and is equipped with a plurality of inwardly extending, spaced resilient rods 26. The said resilient or spring rods 26 are engaged with vertically movable pins 31, the said pins 31 being pivotally connected to the outer arms of vertically swinging, levers The said levers 83 are fulcrumed at 34 and are arranged as shown in Figure 1 relative to needles 3% so as to raise the said needles when the pins 31 are thrust downwardly. It will be apparent from the foregoing that inward movement of the plunger 18 by the cam 16 will be attended by downward movement of the pins 31 and by rocking of the levers 33 to lift the needles 3 1*. On outward movement of the plunger 18 under the action of the spring 19 ,'the pins 31 will be raised, and
the levers 33 will be rocked to permit of gravitation of the needles 3 1 Downward movement of the pins 31 is controlled by an apertured pattern 20*, mounted 011 the roller 29, the said pattern 2O being provided with sets of apertures 21*, differently arranged so that on rocking of the bar 25 some of the pins 31 will be permitted to move downwardly as described while others of the pins 31 will be prevented by the pattern from moving downwardly into the sockets 29 of the roller 29. Manifestly the resilient or springy character of the rods 26 will render this feasible.
The levers 33 are pivoted in the drum which includes plates 8, Figures 1 and 3, filler members 9, an inside ring 10, and an outside ring 32. The inside ring 10 is beveled to hold the plates 8 and members 9 in position, and the outside ring 32 is crowded on the plates to solidly retain the same in assembled relation. The cylinder is made up of plates 6 and 7, Figures 1, 6 and 7, held together through the medium of rings 11 and 12, the ring 11 being fastened by screws 11 or other appropriate means to the drum ring 10.
As will be noted by reference to Figure 1, the upward movement of the needles 341* by the action of the levers 33 is limited by lateral enlargements 5 on the needles bringing up against an inwardly directed flange on an annulus superimposed upon and fixed to the table 2.
In the operation of the improvement it will be understood that when the cam 14 rocks the lever 17 and thereby raises the roller 29 to the highest point, the cam 16 moves the plunger 18 inwardly and thereby depresses the resilient rods 26. lVhere a hole is in the pattern or pattern paper 2O the pin 31 above said hole will be moved downwardly by its spring rod to rock the lever 33 connected to the pin. The needle connected to said lever will be raised. The sed needles have a yarn carrier (not shown), with dilli erent color yarn between the other two standard yarn carriers, and the first-named carrier feeds the yarn in the needles which raised as stated under the (Oilll'Ol oi" the pattern or pattern paper r-rhen the stitch cain reaches the needles that main; the stitch and brings the other color y; "u out on the front and marks the design. l'rtvliigf described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. The combination in a circular knitting machine, of a base, a rotary table, a circular series of vertically-movable needles carried by the table, a group of needle-raising levers carried by the base, pins connected to and pendent from the outer arms of the levers, a hexagonal roller with sockets in its sides disposed under the pins, a pattern with sets of apertures 011 the roller, gravitational means carrying said roller, means to turn the roller through a part of a revolution on downward movement of the gravitational m ans, means controlled by the rotary table to raise and release said gravitational means, and means controlled by the rotary table to depress the pins, the latter means including resilient connections, one to each pm.
2. The combination in a circular knitting machine, of abase, a rotary table, a circular series of vertically-movable needles carried by the table, a group of needle-raising levers carried by the base, pins connected to and pendent from the outer arms of the levers, a hexagonal roller with sockets in its sides disposed under the pins, a pattern with sets of apertures on the roller, gravitational means carrying said roller, means to turn the roller through a partof a revolution on downward movement of the gravitational means, cam on the rotary table, a lever fulcrumed on the base to swing vertically and operable by said cam and connected with said gravitational means to raise the latter, a second cam on the rotary table. a plunger carried by the base and movable endwise in one direction b said second cam, a spring to move the p unger in the opposite direction, and resilient connections, one to each pin, operable by said plunger to depress the pins.
3. The combination in a circular knitting machine. of a base, a rotary table, a circular series of vertically-movable needles carried by the table, a group of needle-raising levers carried by the base, pins conncctcdfto and pendent from the outer arms of the levers, a hexagonal roller with sockets in its sides disposed under the pins, a pattern with sets of apertures on the roller, gravitational means carrying said roller, means to turn the roller through a part of a revolution on downward movement of the gravitational means, a cam on the rotary table, a lever fulcrumed on the base to swing vertically and operable by said cam and connected with said gravitational means to raise the latter, a second cam on the rotary table, a plunger carried by the base and movable endwise in one direction by said second earn, a spring to move the plunger in the opposite direction, and a rocking bar having an upstanding arm movable by said plunger and also having a series of resilient rods connected with the pins, one rod to each pin.
4. The combination in a circular knitting machine, of a base, a rotary table, a circular series of vertically-movable needles carried by the table, a group of needle raising levers carried by the base, pins connected to and pendent from the outer arms of the levers, pattern means, gravitational means carrying said pattern means, means to shift the pattern means on downward movement of the gravitational means, means controlled by the rotary table to raise and release said gravitational means, and means controlled by the rotary table to depress the pins, the latter means includingresilient connections one to each pin.
