Application filed September To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES CUNo, a citizen of the United States of America, r esiding at Meriden, Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Cigar Lighter, of which the following is a specification. I
y invention relates to an electric. heating element, which is particularly adapted for use as a cigar lighter."
In most instances, in small cigar lighters as heretofore made, it has been impossible to provide a sufiicient length of resistance wire in the limited space provided to adapt the device to the heavier voltages, and it has therefore been the practice to inse t a rheostat or other resistance in the circuit at a point remote from the device itself.
It is an object of my invention to provide a cigar lighter tip which is so constructed that one sized tip may be adapted to either the lower or the relatively higher voltages, and in which all of the resistance necessary is embodied in the tip itself.
A further object is to simplify and improve the construction and serviceability of small heating devices of this character.

A heating element in the form of a fiat coil of resistance wire 15 is positioned within the end recess 6, and the outside convolution of said coil preferably extends into the tin dercut portion and beneath the lip or flange 7, so as to assist in holding the coil in place. The inner end or" the heater coil extends through the central passage 9 and, in the form shown, is embedded in a center soit metal terminal 16 at the end of the boss 11. The opposite end of the heating coil extends downwardly through theportion of the slot 10- above the groove 8 and, when more resistan e is desired than is furnished by the heater coil, it may be wound one or more times around the body in the groove 8. This end of the resistance wire is electrically connected to the ferrule 12 and, in the form shown, this end extends through a part of the slot 10 to the base of the ferrule, where through which the it is embedded in the soft metal or solder 1'1",
