Be it known that I, HARRY Louis OLDEN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, vhave invented a new and useful Improvement in Sheet-Metal Roofing, of which the following specification is a full disclosure.
rlhis invention relates to la sheet metal roofing and particularly to the crimpingat the opposite longitudinal edges of the 'sheets to provide for registration and overlapping of the relativeopposite edges of two adjacent sheets for making awaterproof 'joint and rigid nailing ridge when the sheets are applied for roofing and the like covering.
ln my invention the opposite parallel edges of each sheet has formed thereon crimped reenforcing beads of different cross-sectional configuration, one form of bead overlapping the other to form a rigid water-proof and water-conveying laminated joint. y l
An object of my invention is to provide a form vof reenforced water-proof Ajoint which cannotbe crushed by the workmen when 'driving the `necessary nails therethrough to fasten the' jointed sheets, when applying as a roof covering.
Anl additional object isto so shape the reenforcing elements of the joint that draining ways are provided at the interior of the same, along whichv any water forced within will be quickly and positively drained from the joint, thus preventing deterioration of the material and avoiding the possibility of an overflow of water to the under surfaces of the metal roofing.
Another object is to preventcapillary action withinand between the reenforced seams.`
Other objects and advantages will be disclosed in the description of the drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which:

The numeral 1 designates a sheet of roofing,material of any preferred dimensions, provided on one of itsxedges, preferably its longitudinal edge, with a V-shaped .upwardly directed crimp 2, primarily as -an overlapping'or tapping crimp, and on its oppositeparallel edge with a substantially V shaped upwardly extending longitudinally-corrugated reenforcing' crimp 3 of special cross-sectional configuration, primarily as an underlying or lower crimp.
The crimps 2 and 3 may be designated as ridges and the side walls of the crimp or ridge 3 are corrugated longitudinally and toward the base thereof, to strengthen the ridge and break continuous contact between the adjacent walls of nested ridges of two sheets in making a 'oint or seam.
As best seen in ig.'3, the cover crimp Fig. 3, showing 2 overlaps the reenforcing crimp 3, the i a-pices 4 and 5 of the crimpsheing in contact. The sides 5a and 5b of the reenforcing crimp 3 are` spaced from the sides 6 andk 6 of the cover crimp 2, to provide air spaces f 7 between the two crimps; these spaces in conjunction with certain bends, hereinafter described, acting as drain-ways for disposing of any water which may be driven between the reenforced seam, and also acting to prevent capillary action therebetween. Adjacent the lower ends of the sides 5a and 5", of the reenforcing crimp 3, are formed reserve bends 8 and 9, as longitudinal corrugations, the outer side of' the bend 8 being slightly spaced from the inner surface of the wall 6, of the cover crimp 2, and the bend 8l is formed with avertical downwardly extending wall 10, merging into the fiat horizontal portion of the sheet 1. rThe bend 9, of the side of 5b, is formed with a downwardly and outwardly .extending .straight portion 11, lying parallel and in contact with the inner surface of the slanting side 61 of the cover crimp 2, the lower end gf the said portion l1 abutting the roof boar llt) Aplaced The reenforcingcrimp 3 thus acts as a' vstifl'ener for the seam `or joint and in virtue of its spaced relation to the covercrimp, provides drain-ways and vprevents capillary action Ibetween the two"v crimps, vas before stated. A modified form of my invention is shown in Fig. 7, in which the crimp 3L is placed .v over the crimp 2a, the upper portions of the walls of the crimps contacting one slanting The reverse`bends'8b and 9b'of the another.

Having described my invention, what I claim is:
A metal roofing sheet having'non-complementary V-ridges along two opposite ends thereof, adapted for relative ridge nesting for lap joining two sheets to provide a connecting seam, with the crowns of the nested ridges in contact, one ridge of the sheet havingl its opposite walls and at the "base thereof corrugated longitudinally for breaking a continuous contact between the walls of the non-complementary ridge when nested to forma connecting seam.
