' ROPE FASTENER.-
Application filed May 16,
T 0 all to 710m it may concern.
Be it known that I, LEO A. GIROT, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved rope fastener, particularly useful for fastenlng guy ropes of tents, by means of whlch ropes may be quickly and securely fastened or unfastened.
Referring to the annexed drawings m which my invention is illustrated and Wl110l1 forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my rope fastener.
Figure 2 tener.
Figure 8 is a forward end view of my rope fastener.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a modified form of my invention.
Figure 5 is a front end view of said modified form of my invention.
Figure 6 is a side view of the forward member of the modification shown in Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a front end view of another modification of my invention.
Figure 8 is a side view of the modification shown in Figure 7.
My rope fastener includes eye 1 and an arm 2 extending forwardly from the forward end of said eye and curving upwardly at its forward end. In one side of .the end of the arm 2 is a horizontal undercut notch 3 which extends from the forward to the rear ed'geof the end portion of the arm. A notch 41.- is formed in the rear edge and other side of the end portion of the arm 2, said notch extending from the rear end of the notch 3. A vertical lug 5 extends from the side of the end portion of the arm 2 opposite the side inv which the notch 3 is formed, in the upper edge of which lug is formed a notch 6. A hook 7 extends from the lower part of the lug 5 forwardly and inwardly toward the arm 2. The side of the arm 2 adjacent the end of the hook 7 is formed with a notch 8 to permit the rope to pass over the end of the hook into the hook. The eye 1 fits over a stake or post, the rear end of the eye fitting in a notch in one edge of the stake or post, Whereis a plan view of my rope fasan elongated 1921. Serial No. 469,840.
by the "fastener is said stake or post.
To fasten the rope it is first introduced into the notch 3, then drawn around into the notch 4, then through the notch 6 and then between the ,end of the hook 7 and notch 8 into said hook. v In the modifications shown in Figs. 4 to 6 detachably mounted on inclusive, my fastener includes two members 10 and 11. The member 10 includes the eye 1 and arm 2 which extends straight forwardly from the eye and does not curve'up wardly as in the form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive. A threaded bore 12'extends longitudinally in the arm 2 from the forward end thereof. The member 11 includes a disk 13, a screw lei extending rearwardly from said disk, an arm 15 extending forwardly from said disk, horizontalhooks 16 and 17 extending from the forward end of said arm at the sides thereof respectively, and a pair of lugs 18 and 19 upstanding from the arm 15 and forming between them a crotch 20 extending transversely of the arm in alignment with the hooks 16 and 17. The member 11 is detachably secured to the forward end. of the member 10 by screwing the screw 14, into the threaded bore 12 until the disk 13engages the forward end of the arm 2.
The form of my invention shown in Figs. 3'
I 7 and 8 is the same as that shown in Figs 4 to 6 inclusive except that the screw 14 is eliminated and the disk is enlarged and provided with screw holes 21 for securing-the disk to a post or other support.
The rope is introduced upwardly through one of the hooks 16 or 17 then through the crotch 20 between lugs 18 and 19 and then dowr7iward'ly through the other hook 16 or 1 Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A rope fastener including two mem-. here, one member comprising an eye and an arm extending from said eye and provided with a longitudinal threaded bore in its forward end, the other member comprising a disk, a screw extending rearwardly from said disk and adapted threaded bore until said disk engages the front end of said arm, an arm extending forwardly from said disk, a pair of hooks extending from the forward end of said arm at the respective sides thereof, and a pair of upstanding lugs on said to screw into said I arm forming between them a crotch extending transversely of the arm in alignment with said hooks. i i
2.. A rope fastener including tWo memarm extending from said eye and provided bers, one member comprising an .eye and an I with a threaded bore in its forward end, the
other member comprising a disk, a screw extending rearward'ly from said disk and adaptedto screw into. Said threaded bore 10 until said disk engages the front end of said arm, an arm extending forwardly from said disk and hooks carried by the last mentioned arm. i m
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. 15
