CRUSHER.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. FRIOKEY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Crusher, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in crushers, and it consists is the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts which is required to make a complete operative and constructive machine. The detail of construction will be hereinafter fully set forth in the claims.
The object of my invention is to assemble a machine in which the material or articles to be crushed and broken is fed into a hopper and brought in contact by gravity with rapidly rotating hammers or pounders which break up the material into small particles and permits the small or crushed material to pass out through a sieve or perforated bottom and lodge the same in a hopper or container located beneath the crushing mechanism .and from whence this crushed material is removed from the hopper or container and distributed to a proper repositoryby a suction fan or air blast.
A further object of my invention is to provide an auxiliary mounted hammer supporting head in which is pivotally mount ed a plurality of sets of hammers, the peripheral ends designed to be brought against the material with great pounding force, the crushing action caused by the centrifugal action of the rotating head.
A still further object is to provided a crusher head in close proximity to the peripheral path of the hammers between which the material is crushed.
Another object of my invention is to arrange a machine in such a manner that the sieve or perforated bottom may be readily and easily adjusted in accordance with the peripheral radius of the hammers or pounders so that the same may be readily and easily removed from its position and again replaced or renewed without dissembling the remaining portion of the machine.
Another object is to provide a hopper beneath the perforated bottom in which the crushed material is deposited and from which it is removed under air pressure.
This invention is an improvement over my pending application filed Oct. 18th, 1918,
of a portion of the mechanism showing the crusher head, breaker plate and the hinged end of the perforated bottom supporting frame.
Fig. 6, is an enlarged detail sectional view of the opposite end of the perforated bottom supporting plate in its relative position with the frame of the machine, the adjusted mechanism and the space through which the perforated bottom may be removed and replaced.

The general construction of my invention consists of a housing composed of two side walls 9, a front wall 10, and a rear wall 11. The upper portion is formed into a hopper 12 in which the material to be crushed is inserted.
The proper inclination is given to the hopper by inclining the upper portion of the side walls 9, and formed on the wall 11 is an inwardly and downwardly inclined partition 13 which terminates at a cross-bar 14 running through the housing, and attached to the inside of the wall 10 is a breaker plate 15.
Through the side walls is passed a shaft 16 which has proper bearing in the journals 17 properly connected to the side walls and on the shaft and inside of the housing is located a hammer supporting head 18, the same having circumferential grooves 19 in which are pivotally mounted by pins 20,

other, the outer peripheral ends are bent outwardly at right angles forming a hammer or contact head 22 which exerts a pounding blow on the material.
These hammers exert a pounding action on the material by purely circumferential action caused by the rapid rotation of the shaft 16 and on account of the freedom the hammers have a certain amount of rebound when contacting with the material.
The journals on the outside of the housin" which supports the shaft 16 are of a ball bearing type to relieve the shaft from as much friction as possible and motion is imparted to the shaft by means of the pulley 23.
The housing of the crushing mechanism is mounted on the frame 24:, the same having a hopper shaft bottom or receptacle 25, the sides of which are provided with suitable openings 26, and through the openings and through the hopper is passed a shaft 27, the same having bearing in journals 28 Supported on the frame 24 and to one side of the frame is located a blower housing 29 in which is a fan 30 mounted on the shaft 27 and placed in rotation by the pulley 31, which is operated by a belt 32 which likewise passes over a pulley 33 mounted on the opposite end of the shaft 16, and by which the fan is placed in rapid rotation so as to create a suitable suction in order to remove the broken particles from the hopper and discharge through the outlet 34 of the blower housing.
The opening in the opposite end of the frame is to admit the necessary air so as to properly supply the fan during its rotation, and cause the suctional draft to assist in feeding broken material into the fan housing.
On the frame is placed a suitable idler 35, which is brought in contact with the belt to keep it properly taut.
In the variance of structure of the crusher mechanism from my pending application on crusher which is dated and numbered as before stated, is in the frame which supports the perforated bottom, this frame consists of two end plates 36 and 37, and are connected together by two curved inside members 38, the end wall 36 is provided with a projecting lug 39 which has elongated perforations 40 and through which is passed a pin 41 which pin is supported in the wall of the machine housing and beneath the projection is located a cross wedge 42, which also is supported in the walls of the housing but is permitted to be driven in in order to raise and lower the end wall 36 so as to adjust the same.
The end wall 37 is provided with a journal shaft projection 43, it is likewise provided .walls 38 of the frame.
In the frame and beneath the projection 43 is placed a wedge 49, which contacts with the under surface of the projection and supports the same, but when desiring to remove the perforated bottom 48 the wedge 49 can be removed and the end of the frame normally supported by the wedge is permitted to be lowered by means of the handle 46.
In order that the perforated bottom may be removed from its position after the frame has been lowered I provide in the housing an elongated opening 50 which is normally covered by a plate 51, and by removing the plate 51 access may then be had to the perforated bottom through the elongated open- The essential feature of this invention is the adjustment of the perforated bottom, the
- means of removing and replacing the same and the blowing attachment by which the broken up material may be removed and distributed to the proper point desired.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:
1. A crusher of the class described comprising a casing having an opening with a closure therefor, rotary heaters in said casing, a frame in said casing, removable supports at the ends of said frame, a screen supported freely on said frame and adapted to be removed through said casing opening when said frame is lowered by the removal of said supports.
2. A crusher of the class described comprising a casing having an opening therein with a closure therefor, rotary heaters in said casing, a frame in said casing, adjustable supports at the ends of said frame whereby the frame may be raised or lowered, a screen supported freely on said frame and adapted to be removed through said casing opening when said frame is lowered by the adjustment of said supports, and a fan below said screen and supported by said casing adapted to remove the crushed n1aterial passing through said screen.
