TRANSMISSION BAND.
Application filed September 2, 1922. Serial No". 585,944.
To all whom it may conoem Be it known that I, VAL F. F RANCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Transmission Band; and I do hereby declare the to the application of the brake and reverse,.
thereby prolonging the life of the transmission and drive system and preventing the burning and hardening of the band and insuring a cushioning effect, whereby the band is gradual in its gripping action, thereby obviating all noise, chatter and vibration.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
WVhile the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a transmission band embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a transverse section of the band,
Figure 3 a perspective view of portion of the filler, and
Figure 4 is a side view of the transmission band, parts of the tube being broken away to show the filler.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters. 6
A transmission band embodying the ,in-
vention comprises a tube 1 of textile and a filler 2 of yieldable material, such as cork,
to insure a cushioning effect when the band is applied. The tube 1 may be formed in any manner and is preferably woven and may be of indefinite length to admit of required lengths being cut therefrom. The filler 2 consists of a strip of yieldable material, such as cork, and snugly fits within the tube 1 and is provided at intervals in its length with openings 3 which provide pockets for holding a quantity of lubricant whereby the band is prevented from burning and becoming hard and is maintained in a pliable condition so as to operate by a gradual and positive gripping action when applied. The filler and tube are saturated with a composition of graphite-and parafiin, the same being heated to render it fluid, the band being immersed therein to insure a thorough saturation. The yieldable tiller 2 insures a cushioning effect and when the band is applied, the resultant pressure forces the surplus lubricant from the openings or pocket 3 through the pores of the band, thereby lubricating the same, and when the band is relieved of pressure, the parts expanding draw in or absorb a quantity of lubricant which supplies the pockets 3 for future use in the manner stated, preventing all chatter, noise and vibration and precluding a burning or hardening of the band and insuring a gradual and positive gripping action thereof when applied.
What is claimed is:
1. A transmission band comprising a textile tube and a yieldable filler.
2. A transmission band comprising a textile tube and a yieldable filler provided at intervals in its length with openings constituting pockets to receive a quantity of lubricant.
3. A transmission band comprising a textile tube and a yieldable filler of cork.
4. A transmission band comprising a textile tube and a yieldable filler, the same being saturated with a composition ofparafiin and graphite.
5; A transmission band comprising a woven tube and a cork. filler within the tube having openings at intervals in its length to provide pockets for holding a quantity of lubricant, said tube and filler being saturated with a composition of graphite and parafiin.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VAL F. FRANCK.
