In the embodiment of my invention as disis indicated at 3 and it is located within the truck frame in the conventional manner between a pair, of cross-braces 30. The ends of the bolster are supported upon suitable coil springs 4 which rest upon a spring seat 5 carried upon a semi-elliptic leaf spring 6.
The spring seat 5 is disclosed in detail in 1 Figures 7 toll inclusive where it will be seen that the'same is provided with an upper face 31, the edge of which is provided with a wall or flange 32. The spring seat 5 is provided with'arearwardly extending channel- ,shaped portion 33 which lies between a pair of bars or links 34 and is secured to said bars or links 34 by means of bolts 35 extending through these links and through the portion 33 of the spring seat.
The spring seat is provided with downwardly extending fiange'portions 36 which The ends of the links or bars 34 are pivotally connected to a lug 37 on the underside of th bolster 3 by means of the bolt 38.

The link which connects the spring and bolster together consisting of the snring seat 5 and the links 34 also acts to hold the leaf spring flat or horizontal preventing distortion or twisting movement of said spring.
The coil springs 4 act to support any light load on the car and when a heavy load is placed on the car, the under face or flange 39 of the bolster 3 will come into contact or rest upon the wall or flange 32 of the spring seat 5 preventing the coil springs 4 from being compressed further and transferring the load to the leaf spring 6. r
The ends of the leaf spring 6 are supported upon a bracket or seat 7, and said bracket is provided with a pair of upwardly extending ears 8 between which a block 9 is pivoted on the bolt or pin 10.
At 11 is shown a U-shaped hanger which is provided on the inner side of its arched upper end with a rounded rib 12 which rests in a corresponding recess 13 provided in an enlarged portion 14 on the upper edge of the side frame member 1.
The lower ends of the hanger 11 are bent or curled upwardly as at 15 to fit in corresponding depressions in the block 9.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that during side sway of the bolster, the spring 6 will, by reason of the pivot joint- 10 and by reason of the free mounting of the hanger 11 on the frame, ride horizontally and the twisting stresses usually imparted to a fixedspring, will be avoided.
In Figures 4 and 5 a modified form of construction is disclosed, wherein the spring bracket or seat 7 has its ears 8 pivoted to the end of a curved link or hanger 16 by the pin 17, The hanger 16 extends upwardly on one side of the frame member 1, and has its upper end curved to extend over the top of the frame member 1. At 17 is shown the hanger-supporting bracket provided with a pair of spaced lugs 18 which straddle the frame member 1 and which are secured thereto by the bolt 19. The bracket 17 is provided with a, air of upwardly extending spaced ears 18 between which the upper curved end of the hanger 16 is pivoted on a bolt or pivot 19. I
Another modification of my invention is disclosed in Figure 6 wherein the spring supporting bracket or seat 7 has its pivot pin 20 lying within the loop or curve 22 of a substantially U-shaped hanger member 23. The hanger 23 has its upper ends inwardly curved as at 24 to lie in corresponding depressions 25 in a seat 26. The seat" 26 is provided on its underface with a rounded rib 27 which rests in a corresponding depression located in an enlarged portion 28 on the upper edge of the frame member 1.
I have shown several modifications of my invention each of which shows a swinging link adapted to swing from the frame at one end and having its lower end pivotally connected to the supporting means for the leaf spring. Through this arrangement the leaf spring is retained horizontal during all lateral motion.
From the foregoin it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to" the exact embodiments shown but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims. 7
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a car truck, a truck frame, a U-shaped hanger adapted to straddle the frame and extend downwardly on opposite sides thereof, said hanger having its upper end rest ing on said frame and free to oscillate thereon, a spring seat pivoted to the lower end of said hanger and a leaf spring having its end supported on said seat,

In a car truck, a truck frame, a hanger resting on the upper edge of said frame and having its side members extending downwardly on opposite sides thereof, said hanger being free to'oscillate on said frameg'a' spring seat secured to the lower end of said hanger and free to swing independent of said hanger, a leaf spring having its end supported on said seat, a bolster supported by said spring and a link extending between said bolster'and spring for retaining said spring in a horizontal'position.
