Application filed August a, 1921. s ri l Nof 4 ,90,624.
T0 ail whom it may 004 m I Be it known that I, JOHNL. OAs'rILn, citizen ofthe United States, residing at Boone, in the county of Boon and Stateof Iowa, have invented certain new andiuseful Improvements in Tank Stands,,of which the following'is a specification. v e r, This invention relates to an-improved tank stand, being particularly designed for use as an oil or fuel tank stand, and has, as one of its principal objects uto provide ;a device of this character whereby a'isingle person may readily shift a tank to vertical position for filling the tank and may then return the tank to horizontal position so that the con tents of the tank may be drawn therefrom from time to time. i
A further object ofthe ii e tm is 6 prOVide a stand wherein it willlnot be necessary to'remove the tank therefrom in order to fill the tank. c 1
And the invention has as a still further object to provide a stand which will be characterized by structural simplicity and which, in practical use, will prove entirely'efficient.
Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional tank in connection with my improved stand, the cradle of the stand being I moved for supporting the tank in vertical position,
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing the side and end bars 11 riveted or otherwise se- I cured to each other as well as to the posts.
Mounted to rock upon the base is a cradle comp-rising side bars 12 connected at their ends by end bars 13 riveted or otherwise se cured to the side bars. Extending through the upper ends of the posts at the rear endof the base and through the side bars 12 of the cradle near the rear end of the cradle, are
rivets or other suitable fastening elements 1% swin'gingly connecting the cradle [withthe base and, as will be observed upon reference to Figure 3, the side bars of thecradle are formed to fit over the upper sidebars ofthe base extending therealong. Thus, the" cradle tion upon the base.
Mounted upon the'icradlei at its' reiarfend is a laterally directed shelf comprising side bars 15 connected at tlieir'outer "ends by a inay be swungto rest in a horizontalposl tending throughsaid lugs and through the latter side bars are rivetsor other suitable fastening devices rigidly securing the shelf y I to the cradle. Pivote'd upon the side bars 1.5 of the shelf at their outer ends are legs 19 secured to said side bars by rivets or other approved fastening devices 20 and connect ing said legs is a cross bar 21, the legs being foldable, as shown in Figure 2, to lie between the side bars of the shelf therebeneath.
Mounted upon the cradle at its ends are 1011- v gitudinally bowed tank supporting members 22 bent at theirends to provide legs 23 upon I the lower ends of which are formed lugs 24:.
The lugs of the forward member rest upon the side bars '12 of the cradlevand areriveted thereto While thelugs of the rear member rest upon the lugs 18 of the side. bars 15 of theshelf and are secured to the side barsof the cradle by the same rivets holding said latter lugs. to the side bars of thecradle medially there Rive-ted or otherwise secured I of, is a splitretaining strap 25 the portions of which overlap and are connected by a. bolt 26 and, as illustrated, this strap is designed to retain ajtank, as conventionallyillustrated at 27, upon the cradle, the tank abutting at its rear end against the shelf of thecradle and resting within the bowed supporting members 22 therefor. At its forward end the tank is provided with the usual spigot 28 as well as with a filling closed by a plug 29. i
As will now be seen in viewof the preceding descriptiomwhen the cradle is disposed in normal horizontal position the cradle will opening which is c support the tank 27 disposed horizontally upon the stand so th at the contei' 'ts of the tank may be readily withdrawn through the spigot 28. On the other hand, when the tank becomes empty the cradle may then, as
shown in. Figure 1, be swung upwardly upon the stand to vertical position for shifting the tank to vertical position resting upon the shelfof the cradle, the legs. 19 being extends 7 ed to engage the ground or floor as thecase tical position for filling the tank and-reconstructed ofangle iron comprising corner from.
turning the tank to a horizontal position so that'the contents may be Withdrawn there Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new 1s: j
ln'a stand of the class described, a base posts transverse and longitudinal bars rigidly, secured together atthe corners; a cradle similarly constructed ofangle iron comprising two, longitudinal bars and one transverse bar rigidly secured at one end of the cradle in such a manner that it substantially coinsides with the corresponding end of the base when the cradle is in a lowered position, the
other end of the cradle being open; the
flanges of the cradle bars being so situated that they restupon. and embrace three sides of the top in said position; journals for the cradle at the other'end of said base, the open end of the cradle extending beyond the end of the base, a shelf positioned perpendicularly to? the side bars of the cradle at the open end thereof, said shelf including side runners of angle iron and-a transverse runner-rigidly connecting said side runners, the sideflanges of said sider'u'nn'ers belng secured to the open'ends" of the cradle bars and the inward flanges having their ends bent. to 'form ledges and an arcuate tank support, having legs with transverse feet resting upon the ledges and rigidly connected therewith, a second arcuate support at the closed end of said cradle similarly secured to the. bars of the cradle. holding down means for a tank'on' said cradle and hinged legs at the free end of said shelf for supporting the cradle in upright position.
i In testimon whereof I afiix' my signature.
