Definitions
- a bushing with a bearing seat at its outer end and an inner end divided into opposed symmetrical spiral surfaces on its inner face with longitudinal slots leading thereto aplug with a flanged bearing to fit the bearing at the outer end of the bushing and with longitudinally projectlng opposed lugs adapted to pass through the longitudinal slots and engage the said spiral surfaces, and an external manually manipulated means for securing said plug against rotation.
- said plug having opposed lugs adapted to be introduced through the said longitudinal grooves of said bushing into engagement withthe said spiral surfaces thereof whereby the hearing faces of said bushing and plug" are clamped together by a rotative movement of the plug, said plug being adapted to re ceive a wrench.

P. E. MCINTOSH ET AL BOILER PLUG Filed Sept. 25, 1921 INVEYTOR. Pefer f. Nflnfosh Eusse/l O'Go/me/l i. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a screw bushing with a bearing seat at its outer end and an inner end divided into opposed symmetrical spiral surfaces with longitudinal slots leading thereto, a plug with a flanged bearing to fit the hearing at the outer end of the ,bushing and with longitudinally projecting opposed lugs adapted to pass through the longitudinal slots and engage the said spiral surfaces, a square projection on the plug for turning the same, a transversely projecting plate carrying a curved segment with aseries of screw holes, a set screw for insertion through the said segment to lock the plug in closed position, and a lock nut for the set screw, as specified.
2. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a bushing with a bearing seat at its end and an inner end divided into opposed symmetrical spiral surfaces with longitudinal slots leading thereto, a plug with a flanged bearing to fit the bearing at the outer end of the bushing and with longitudinally projecting opposed lugs adapted to pass through the longitudinal slots and engage the said spiral surfaces, a square projection on the plug for turning the same, a transversely projecting part, and a set screw for insertion through the said part for locking the plug in closed position, as specified.
3. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a bushing with a hear ing seat at its outer end "and an inner end divided into opposed symmetrical spiral surfaces with longitudinal slots leading thereto, a plug with a flanged bearing to fit the bearing at the outer end of the bushing and with longitudinally projecting opposed lugs adapted to pass through the longitudinal slots and engage the said spiral surfaces, a transversely projecting part, and a set screw for insertion through the said part for locking the plug in closed position, as specified.
4. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a bushing with a bearing seat at its outer end and inner end divided into opposed symmetrical spiral surfaces on its inner face with longitudinal slots leading thereto, a plug with a flanged bearing to fit the bearing at the outer end of the bushing and with longitudinally projecting opposed lugs adapted to pass through the longitudinal slots and engage the said spiral surfaces, and "set screw means to lock said plug against rotation to secure it in place. 5. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a bushing with a bearing seat at its outer end and an inner end divided into opposed symmetrical spiral surfaces on its inner face with longitudinal slots leading thereto, aplug with a flanged bearing to fit the bearing at the outer end of the bushing and with longitudinally projectlng opposed lugs adapted to pass through the longitudinal slots and engage the said spiral surfaces, and an external manually manipulated means for securing said plug against rotation.
6. In a boiler plug, the combination with a one piece externally threaded bushing having its outer end faced to provide a bearing seat and its inner end conformed to provide oppositely disposed symmetrical spiral surfaces, said bushing having opposed internal longitudinal grooves extending from end to end thereof and leading to said spiral surfaces, and a one piece plug having a peripheral flange at its outer end,
faced on its inner side to coact Withsaid bearing seat of said bushing, said plug having opposed lugs adapted to be introduced through the said longitudinal grooves of said bushing into engagement withthe said spiral surfaces thereof whereby the hearing faces of said bushing and plug" are clamped together by a rotative movement of the plug, said plug being adapted to re ceive a wrench.
In witness whereof, we have hereunto'set our hands and seals in the presence of two witnesses.
