E. D. HARDING MEMORIAL TABLET AND GRAVE MARKER Filed Feb. 25, 1922 INVEWOR ELMOM D. HAIQDING WITNESSES ATTORNEYS Patented May 22, 1923.
MEMORIAL TABLET AND GRAVE MARKER.
Application filed February 25, 1922.
1 0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMON D. HARDING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Montevideo, in the county of Chippewa and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Memorial Tablets and Grave Markers, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to memorial tablets and grave markers, and is more particularly a device which may be utilized as a memorial tablet either permanently or temporarily and may in particular after temporary use as a memorial tablet be further utilized as a grave marker.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates my present invention andforms a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete device, and
Figure 2 is a side view partly broken away and in section.
Referring now to these figures my invention proposes a memorial tablet whose body 10 I have shown in the present instance as of oval form, suitably inscribed, embellished or ornamented upon one face upon which, in blank spaces, suitable inscriptions may be made in any suitable way either directly or on plates attached thereto when the device is utilized. It will be understood however that the general shape of the body of the tablet may be varied at will, as may the embellishments and inscriptions upon its face It is important however that the body be of sufficient thickness for the provision therein of a pin receiving bore 11. in the present instance in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the body, adapted to detacha-bly re- Serial No. 539,203.
ceive one end 12 of a pin or stake 13 whose opposite end is preferably pointed at let and is thus adapted to readily enter the ground for supporting the tablet in upright position as a grave marker.
Disassociation of the pin or stake 13 from the tablet permits the latter to be utilized either flatwise upon a casket as a memorial tablet or identification marker, and by providing the rear face of the body of the tablet with a bendable eye 15 diametrically opposite its pin or stake receiving bore I adapt the tablet body to be hung upon a wall or other supporting surface adjacent to the casket, and from which position it may be readily removed, carried with the casket, and finally by association with the pin or stake 13 as shown, it may serve as a temporary or permanent grave marker.
As above stated the shape or outline of the body of the tablet may be varied at will, and in addition to this and for the purpose of conforming to change in shape, a. second pin receiving bore and pin or stake may be pro vided and in fact the number of these pins or stakes multiplied at will.
My invention provides a neat, simple and effective device of this character, and one which may be used permanently as well as temporarily for the purposes stated.
I claim:
A combined casket plate, memorial tablet and grave marker having a substantially flat body provided with a bendable eye upon its rear face at one end and also provided with a bore extending therein at its opposite end, and a stake detachably associated with the bore, as described.
ELMON D. HARDING.
