a device for connecting an emblem, locket or other article of jewelry or the like to a chain so as to prevent loss of the article as well as to assure of its securement to the chain at a predetermined point on the latter.

A. further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which can be easily and quickly operated to apply same to or release same from a chain or the like and'which at the same time is positive in its holding action.

The invention still further aims to provide a device which is of simple and economical construction and has still further and other objects, which will be later set forth and manifested in the co-urse of the following` description.

In proceedingz in accolrdance with the; present invention, a tubular body 1, is employed which has a closed end- 2 to which latter aring or eye 3 is secured, inv order to provide a means of attachment Jfor an emblem, locket or other article of jewelry or personal adornment, indicated at 4 in the (lrawinzs.

A substantially U-shaped member 5 has the free ends of its arms 6 secured to the oppos'ite 'sides of the body 1, in any suitable manner, such as by soldering, the arms being longitudinally slotted as shown at 7. The closed end of the member 5 forms a rigid jaw which engages one side of the chain or` the like, indicated at 8., The opposite side of the chain 8 is engaged by a slidable tensioned jaw 9 and acts to normally urge the jaw 9 outwardly away from the body l. The jaw 9 has a lateral perforati'on therethrough receivng a pin 12 there- `in-,,which latter may be'ri'gidly secured in any desired or suitable manner, the .ends of the pin projecting through the slots" 7, so asto be capable of engagementvby' or with the fingers to thus slide the jaw 9 inwardly or away from the chain so as to release the latter.

The U-shaped member 5 is formed of a strip of metal bent into U-shape, and consequently it has open sides vthrough which the chain may be readily passed in securing the device thereto.

ln operation, the pin 12 is grasped by the fingers and the jaw 9 then slid downwardly or toward the body 1, whereupon the chain is passed through the open sides of the U-member 5 and the device positioned at the desired point on the chain 8, following' which the pin is released and the jaw 9 is then caused to grip the chain by virtue of the tension exerted thereon by the spring 11. The chain is thus gripped between the jaw 9 and the jaw formed by the closed end of the member 5.

By releasing the jaw 9 from engagement with the chain, the device may be disengaged from the chain, or moved to any desired position on the latter and again held by permitting the jaw to again engage the chain.

It will thus -be seen that the chain is literally pinched between'the two jaws and the device consequently held in fiXed relation to the chain and at any predetermined point thereon, preventing loss or displacement of the article with respect to the chain.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. n a jewelry holder for Chains, a tubular body closed at one end` means to attach an article of jewelry to the closed end of the body, a jaw having' a tubular shank slidable in the tubular body, a coil spring in the shank abntting the jaw and the closed end of the body at its ends, a pin carried by the jaw, and a U-shaped member having its arms secured to opposite sides of the tubula-r body and having lonzitudinal slots in its arms receiving the ends of the pin therethrough, the closed end of the U-member forming a jaw and the sides `of the member being open to allow the chain,

to be passed therethrough and engaged witli and between the two j aws.
