This invention'relates to fluid actuated rock drills of the hammer type, having an independent motor for rotating thedrill steel, but relates more particularly to a fluid actuated rotation motor. having a cas-' ing adapted to be sleeved over a portion of the drill cylinder at the back end of the machine.
The objects of the invention are to simplify, strengthen and cheapen a motor construction of the type referred to, and also enable the parts to be assembled.

and in accordance with this invention, the motor casing J is open at front and back as indicated particularly in Figure 3, and is provided with achamber K for the motor, and a sleeve portion L adapted to be sleeved over the reduced portion H of the cylinder back extension E. By means of such construction, the faced flange G of the cylinder back extension forms the front head of the motor casing. A back head O, fitted to the motor casing, as indicated in Figure 1, forms a common head for both the bore of the cylinder and the motor chamber K in the motor casing J. The parts of the machine are suitably held together by the usual side bolts P. i The motor comprises the rotary gears Q and R suitably mounted on roller bearings S on the studs T held in the back head 0 as by means'of the tap screws U. One gear is 7 stance, the forward end of the shaft V is provided with the roller-be-aring'W and the pinion X meshing with the gear Y, which is I connected to the gear Z, meshing with the gear. a on the'rotating chuck 6 into which the drill steel D extends?
