Be it known that I, Tnnono-nn R. CHAND- men, a citizen of the United States, residing at Davenportpin the county of Scott and State-of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Car-Door Hanger, of whichfthe following is a specification. i
This invention relates to improvements in sliding doors and more particularly to hangers/for mounting a door on one side of a ca rlor the like'which permit the door to be moved to open or closed position and p re-. ventthedoor' from being detached and lost while the car is in transit.
Hangers for car doors have been constructed to movelaterally and longitudinally on a track but such devices a e of complicatedpeicpensive construction, easily liable to get out of order and dependent upon inanual' operation to force the doorlaterally out of its opening and one object of the inven tion is the provision of resilient means 0pcrating upon the unlocking. of the door to force the door outwardly. from its opening to clear the wall of' the car and perm t longitudinalmovenient of the door.

The upper end of the door is simultaneously forced outwardly by the action of a spring 9 (Figs, 2 and 6) which is mounted on the web of the channel 8 by means of bolts 12 so as to bear constantly against the downwardly projecting leg of the Z bar 10. The spring 9 acts to yieldingly hold the door out wardly away from the Wall 22 and is made sufficiently rigid to move the door and hanger outwardly and keep the cam 18 in contact with the 21 bar 10 as the cam is rotated. The rollers 19 are slid longitudinally on the track by the lateral movement of the door and are of sufficient length that when in their outermost position they have ample bearing on the Z bar 10. The door 1 can then be rolled along the track 10 until it strikes the stop 15.
Thus it will be seen that I have PlOYlLlBLl an improved supporting and locking device of substantial construction for a car door or the like which is manually operable to force the door laterally into closed position and which upon release of the locking device automatically moves the door and hanger outwardly from the car to permit of its longitudinal movement to open position.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with a wall of door set into the side thereof, a Z bar track fastened to the wall, a hanger comprising a channel rigidly fastened to the door, and having rollers mounted on the web of the channel adapted to roll longitudinally along the web of said Z bar and to be slid transversely on said Z bar web, a vertical rod rotatably mounted on the door, a Z bar guide member on said wall, at the bottom of the door, a cam on the upper end of said rod adapted to force the door laterally toward said wall upon rotation of said rod and to limit the outward lateral movement of the door and hanger, and a cam on the bottom. end'of said rod adapted to limit the lateral movement of the door in the bottom guide member.
2. The combination with a wall of a door set into the side thereof, a Z bar track fastened to the wall, a hanger comprising a channel rigidly fastened to the door, and having rollers mounted on the web of the channel adapted to roll longitudinally along the web of said Z bar and to he slid transversely on said 2 bar web, a vertical rod rotatably mounted on the door, a Z bar .guide member on said wall, at the bottom of i the door, a cam on the upper end of said rod adapted to force the door laterally toward said wall upon rotation of said rod and to limit the outward lateral movement ofthe door and hanger, and a resilient member mounted on the channel in contact with said first mentioned 2 bar to yieldingly hold the channel and door outwardly from the wall.
3. The combination with a wall of a door set into the side thereof, a Z bar track fastened to the wall, a hanger comprising a channel rigidly fastened to the door, and having rollers mounted on the web of the channel adapted to roll longitudinally along the web of said Z bar and to be slid transversely on said Z bar web, a vertical rod rotatably mounted on the door, a Z bar guide member on said wall, at the bottom of the door, a cam on the upper end of said rod adapted to force the door laterally toward said wall upon rotation of said rod and to limit the outward lateral movement of the door and hanger, a cam on the bottom end of said rod adapted to limit the lateral movement of the door in the bottom guide member and a resilient member mounted on the channel in contact with said first mentioned 2 bar to yieldingly hold the channel and door outwardly from the wall.

The combination with a car having a door opening and sliding door, of hanging mechanism at the top of the door comprising track and a hanger engaging said track, device operable to force said door laterally into the door opening, said device comprising a vertical rod rotatably mounted on the door and having a cam projecting from its upper end to engage said track as the rod is rotated to force the door inwardly, a guide at the bottom of the door, a cam on the bottom of the rod adapted to engage the guide and hold the bottom of said door away from said opening when the upper cam is out of engagement with the track, and a leaf spring mounted on the hanger in contact with said track to yieldingly hold the top portion of the door away from the opening and means for locking said rod against rotation when the upper cam is in engagement with the track. The combination with a car having a door opening and a sliding door therefor, of hanging mechanism at the top of the door comprising a track, and a hanger engaging lllll said track, a device operable to force said door opening and a sliding door therefor, of hanging mechanism at the top of said door comprising a track, and a hanger engaging said track, adevice operable to force said door laterally into the door opening, said device comprising a vertical rod rotatably mounted on the door and having a cam projecting from its upper end to engage said track as the rod is rotated and force said door inwardly, a guide at the bottom of said door, a cam on the bottom of' said rod adapted to engage the guide and hold the bottom of the door away from said opening when the upper cam is out of engagement with said track, and a leaf spring mounted on said hanger in contact with said track to yieldingly hold the top portion of said door away from said opening.
7. The combination with a car'having a door opening and a sliding door therefor, of
hanging mechanism at the top of the door comprising a track, and a hanger engaging the track, a device operable to force the door laterally into the door opening, said device comprising a vertical rod rotatably mounted on the door and having a cam projecting from its upper end to engage said track as the rod is rotated and force said door inwardly, a guide at the bottom of the door, a cam on the bottom of the rod ada ted to engage said guide and hold the bottom of said door away from the opening when the upper cam is out of engagement with said 2 bar, and means for locking said rod against rotation when said upper cam is in engagement with said track.
8. The combination with a sliding door, of hanging mechanism at the top thereof comprising a track, a hanger engaging said track and a device operable to force said door laterally into the door opening, said device comprising a rod rotatably mounted on the door, and having a cam projecting therefrom to engage said track as the rod,
