v romaine REVOLVER- Applicationle'd'eprl 19, .1222. Serial No. 555,610.
To all whom t concern:
'Beit known that I, HENRY Rosina, a subject of the King of Belgium, resident of Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have made a certain new and useful Invention' in Folding Revolvers; and l declare'the following to be .a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maire and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of the invention.
Figure 2 is a similar View showing trigger pulled to fire, the firing pin being on the point of release. l
Figure 8 is a side view of the invention with parts folded, parts being in section.
The invention has relation to a folding revolver, having for an object to provide a folding grip or handle and a folding trig- L ger, which when in folded position will render the revolver much more compact, so that it may be more readily placed in the pocket or other place of limited capacity, and which further when folded is made more safe in that it may not be accidentally ischarged. y
The invention consists in the novel con` struction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
ln the accompanying drawings illustrat ing the invention, the numeral 1, designates a revolver frame; 2, the cylinder; 3, the barrel; t, the center pin upon which the cylinder revolves; 5, the trigger; 6, the pivot of trigger; 7 the pawl pivoted to the trigger at 8 and engaging the ratchet teeth 9 of the cylinder to revolve the latter one step each time the trigger is pulled; 10 is the firing piece pivoted at 12 and having an operating spring 13 and a firing pin 14, thev latter pivoted to the firing piece at 15.
The trigger comprises a lever 6b, fulcrumed at 6 to the frame andhaving a forward extension 5 pivoted at 6a thereto and depending therefrom. The trigger lever 6b is substantially horizontal and underlies the cylinder and its forward extension 5 is foldable upwardly to position approximately parallel with the barrel as shown in Figure 2, the joint of said extension and said lever being adapted to prevent any operation of the lever when said extension is folded as stated. The triggerl lever 6b in*V firing'has a downward yoperative movement to position shown in Figure 3. i A I f rhe grip or handle ofthe Vrevolver is shown at 16 and is pivoted 'to the frame 1l "at point 17, being vof sreleton Aform having a back 18 and lateral branches 19 spaced apart by a distance sufcient to enable them in the folded position of the grip as in Figure 2 to embrace the frame 1 and the cylinder at the lower portion thereof. For this purpose the grip is open forwardly, the pivot pin 17 connecting the branches 19 and the back 18 connecting said branches.
ln the folded position of the grip it underlies the trigger levertb and the joint 6a, the grip in this folded position being adapted to prevent the downward operative movement of said trigger lever.
ln the normal or unfolded position of the grip, the same is engaged at the upper end thereof by the tail arm of a lever 21, the latter pivoted to the frame 1 at 22 and acting to hold the grip in normal position. The engagement of lever and grip is effected by means of a tooth 23 of said tail arm fitting in a recess 24 ofthe upper end of the grip. Operation of the lever 21 by pressing one finger of the operators hand upon the roughened operating end 25 of the said lever will raise the tail arm of the lever to release the grip, which may then be folded as stated.
In the folding of the grip a spring 26 thereof frictionally engages a cam portion 27 of the frame 1 to somewhat impede the folding, and at the end of the folding movement the curved or bent free end of the said spring snaps into a recess 26 at the end of the said cam 27 to hold the grip releasably in folded position.
In unfolding the grip, the spring end will ride out of the said recess 26, the unfolding of the trigger will be somewhat im-v peded by engagement of the spring end with the cam 27, and at the end portion of the unfolding movement the spring end will engage a straight or substantially straight portion 29 of the cani 27 of less eccentricity than the part 27 of the cam, whereby the unfolding movement is rendered more easy, and at the end of the unfolding movement the catch lever 21 engages the grip to maintain it in unfolded position. At the end of the unfolding movement of the grip, the
approximately pointed or reduced upper end 30 thereof engages a. shoulder 3l of the iframe l and fits in e recess of seid freine to engage the lateral Walls of the recess, whereby any lateral Vmovement of the unfolded grip is prevented end Jhe seme is held rigidly in unfolded position.
The catch lever is held in engaged position with the grip his e spring engaging under its head end. v
claim: y
In a revolver e. cylinder, a substantially horizontal trigger lever underlying the cylinder and adapted to have e downward operative movement, seid lever having a. I"0r Werd extension pivoted thereto and depending therefrom, in combination with a grip oldable' to underlie said cylinder and trigger lever Land edaped to prevent said downward operaive inovemenJ3 the freine of the revolver having zr Cainj and said grip having e spring engaging seid earn and adapted to resist uniqolding'of the grip7 the grip having recess, and e @sich lever fulcrurned to the freine and adapted to engage said recess to hold the grip in unfolded position.
