Angle Iron-Cutters. No. 145,437-, Pare-fed nep. 9,1873.
NEE
UNITED STATES PATENT QEETCEo ARCHIBALD llICGUFFIE, OF BUFFALO, EIN YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ANGLE-IRON CUTTRS.
Specifica-tion forming part of LettersPatent No. 145,437, dated Dr c( mbt-r 9, 1573; application filed September 10, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARCHIBALD MCGUEEIE, of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Anglelron Gutters, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to angle-iron-cutting machines, and consists of a removable and reversible lower knife having a plane or straight cutting-edge, which is capable of being adjusted in order to present a new cuttingedge, which is arranged in respect to an upper movable blade having beveled cutting-edges, as will be fully hereinafter described.
In' the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the cutters, 85o.; Fig. 2, plan showing the lower knife and wedges; Fig. 3, side elevation.
A represents the slide, working up and down in the upper part of the frame B in the usual manner, and to which the upper blade C of the knife is fastened. This blade is constructed with two beveled edges, a a, coming to a point in the center. The lower knife D is formed, in the usual manner, of a single straight piece; but in order to adjust it one way or the other when the edge becomes dull and worn, I supply two metal wedges, b c, which sit each side of the blade D in reversed position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. By driving these either way a new edge is presented to the action of the upper blade. These wedges7 from their form, do away with packing the blade D, as is usual, as they pack themselves when driven tighter. By constructing the lower knife D with plane cutting-edges, it can be removed and reversed to present a new cutting-edge, and, further, I am enabled to cnt at any angle.
I claiml. rlhe removable and reversible knife D, having a plane or straight cutting-edge, in combination with the vertical knife C, having the beveled cutting-edges a, d, arranged substantially as described, for the purpose specifled.
2. In an angle-iron-cutting machine, the reversed wedges b c, placed 011e each side of and in combination with the lower blade D, arranged and applied as and for the purpose specied.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my naine in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
