Be it known that I, HERMAN BATH, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented Ya new and useful Form for Concrete, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce an eiiicient collapsible form by means of which concrete floor slabs of the beam type may be readily produced, the forms being of such character that they may be readily assembled, dissassembled, and reassembled.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention: Fig. 1 is a transverse vertical section of my improved forms in floor-slab supporting position (the section on the plane 1-1 of Fig, 2) Fig. 2 is a plan of several sections of my form, the bridge board being partially broken away at points; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective of the beam-supporting board and adjacent parts; Fig. 5 is a perspective of one of the end boards; Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective of two adjacent side boards and two cross braces; Fig. 7 is an inverted perspective of the bridge board; Figure 8 is a detail section of a modified form 01"' a retaining strip.
In the drawings 10 indicates a board of the proper length and width (in longitudinal sections if desired) to be coextensive with the lower face of a contemplated beam 12 of concrete, said boards being supported i by theusual falsework 13. Tacked lightly to the sidesof board 10 are L-shaped retainers 14, the horizontal arms of which are slightly less in thickness than the thickness of board 10, the strips being held in place by occasional nails 15.
The series of side boards 16, of comparative short unit length, say two and a half or three feet, are held in place at their lower edges, by the retainers 14 and these side boards are supplemented at each end by boards 16. Each of the end boards 16 is provided at its inner end with a block 17 which is set back slightly from the adjacent end of the board and this block carries a block 18 which is projected beyond the end of block 17 so as to form a pocket for the reception of the projected end of the block 19 carried by the adjacent end ot one of the intermediate boards 16, said block being surmounted by a block 20 which coordinates with block 18.
The block 2O overhangs the rear edge of block 19 so as to form a pocket for the reception of a strip 21 carried by the end'of cross brace 22, the arrangement being such that, braces 22 extending across from one side board 16 to its companion, will have its strips 21 seated in the pocket formed between board 16 and blocks 19 and 20 and will be held temporarily in place by a turn button 23v pivoted at 24 on the side board 16.
Some of the side board sections 16 and 16 are pro-vided at an intermediate point, adjacent their top edge, with a strip 30 beneath which may be turned a locking button 31 carried by a bridge plate section 32, the side edges of which are adapted to receive upon the upper edges of the side boards. The bridge plates 32 are made in sections which may or may not correspond in length to the length of the side board sections 16 and 16 and each end section and has a locking button 33 which may be turned beneath a strip 34, likel strip 30, carried by the end board Section near its upper edge. The bridge plates may be provided with stiiening battens 35 which may rest upon blocks 36 appropriately secured to the outer faces of some of the side boards.
At adjacent ends the bridge plates 32 are provided with overlapping andr engaging blocks 37 and the parts when assembled, as sho-wn in Fig. 1, form a form into which the concrete for the floor slab may be poured and when this concrete is fairly set strips 14 may be readily pried loose because of the comparative lightness of their connection with the boards 10 and the fact that the lower arms of these strips are of less thickness than the boards 10. The various locking buttons 23, 28, and 31 may then be turned to releasing position, the cross braces 22 shifted transversely to the track strips 21 from the receiving pockets, and removed, the side boards readily Withdrawn .downwardly, and the bridge plates then Withdrawn. The parts may be then reassembled for another operation. In case of structures ot a different dimension properly proportioned bridge plates may be substituted, and in case ot' different lengths of beams, the major or primary sections reused, it being merely necessary to provide new end sections of thel proper length.
It will be noted that by this construction the boards l() remain in place to torni a support for the partially set concrete and that consequently the major portions of the forms may be Withdrawn considerably sooner than would otherwise be the case because the comparatively green concrete remains primarily supported by the alsework i3.
In order to avoid the necessity ot' the large number of different Widths of side boards 16, a minimum Width board may be used and the leaves of diferent heights obtained by using properly proportioned retaining strips lt, as shown in Fig. 8, Where said strips are provided with shoulders laf which aline with the side board 16 to give the additional depth.
I claim as my invention:
l. A collapsible floor form comprising a bottom board, side boards detachably associated therewith by means ot a laterally movable retaining strip attached to the bottom boards and having laterally extending sockets, cross braces having laterally extending projections engaging in said sockets, means for holding said cross braces in interlocked relation with the side boards and a bridge plate supported upon the upper edges ot the side boards ot two adjacent forms and Withdrawable interlocking connections between the bridge plates and the side boards.
2. A collapsible floor form comprising a bottom board, side boards detachably associated therewith and having laterally extending sockets, cross braces having laterally extending projections removably engaging in said sockets, means for holding said cross braces and side boards in interlocked position and a bridge plate supported upon the upper edges of the side boards of tivo adjacent forms and Withdravvable interlocking connections between the bridge plate and side boards.
3. A collapsible floor form comprising a pair ot bottom boards, a pair of side boards each associated With one ot' the bottom boards, Withdrawable means tor holding said bottom boards associated With the side boards, said means comprising a laterally Withdrawable retaining strip attached to the bottom boards, a transverse brace provided with a laterally extending strip 2l at each end, a strip receiving pocket carried by the side boards and formed to receive the strips ot the cross braces, pivoted retaining buttons mounted upon the side boards and arranged to be turned into engagement with the cross braces to retain it in position, a bridge plate, a locked strip 30 carried by the side boards near their upper edges, and retaining buttons pivoted to the bridge plate and arranged to be turned beneath the lock strips of the side boards.
4. A collapsible floor form comprising a pair of bottom boards, a pair ot side boards each associated with one of the bottom boards, Withdraivable means for holding said bottom boards associated With the side boards, a transverse brace provided With a laterally extending strip 2l at. each end, a strip receiving pocket carried by the side boards and formed to receive the strips of the cross braces, pivoted retaining buttons mounted upon the side boards and arranged to be turned into engagement with the cross bracesto retain it in position, a bridge plate, a locked strip 30 carried by the side boards near their upper edges, and retaining buttons pivoted to the bridge plate and arranged to be turned beneath the lock strips of the side boards.
5. A collapsible torm comprising a pair of side boards, a cross brace provided atits ends With laterally extending strips 21, pockets for 'receiving said strips 2l carried by the side boards, retaining buttons 24; arranged to retain the cross braces inposition with its strips in the pockets, and end board extending from one side board totheother, locking buttons 2S carried by the end board, and strips27 carried by the side boards in position to cooperate With the locking buttons 28. f
