M. C. LOESCH VAPORIZER FOR COMBUSTION ENGINES Filed April 28 1 1920 Patented Apr. 24, 1923.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MILTON C. LOESCH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM F. RYAN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
VAPORIZER FOR COIVIBUSTION ENGINES.
Application filed April 28, 1920. Serial No. 377,297.
To 1:]? {P1710971 it may concern Be it known that I, MIL-'roN C. LonsoH, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of 5 Hamilton and State of Ohio, have in vented a new and usefulImprovement in Vaporizers for (,ombustion Engines, of which the following is a specification.
An object of my invention is to provide a vaporizer that may be inserted between the intake manifold of an automobile engine and the supply pipe leading from the carburetor to the intake manifold.
Another object is to provide a device for 15 the purpose stated that will be cheap, simple and etlicient, and that may be easily attached.
These and other objects are attained by means described herein and disclosed in the B0 accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a vaporizer embodying my invention mounted between the supply pipe and an intake manifold.
Fig. '2, is an enlarged view of line Zr-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is an enlarged end view of a device embodying my invention, parts being broken away.
My invention comprises the blocks A and 130 A between which is supported an electrical heating element B. The blocks are adapted to be mounted between the intake manifold C and the supply pipe D.
The blocks A and A have central perforations at. Centrally between the blocks is formed a seat a in which is seated the frame Z) of the heating element. The blocks are preferably made of fibre or some other similar electrically insulating material. A wire 7) is wound about frame 6 and comprises the heating element. This wire is electrically insulated, preferably with a cotton covering. The ends of the wire are connected to the binding posts I) and b on the outer surface of the blocks. The gaskets a? are formed upon the blocks whereby the vaporizer may be secured between the pipe C and D.
The operation of the device is as follows:
An electrical current is passed thru the wire Z) upon the frame 1), thereby forming a heated obstruction against which the fuel coming from the carburetor impinges, thereby breaking up the globules of fuel oil into very fine particles. The breaking up of these globules assures a more uniform mixture of the gas entering the. engine chamber, resulting in increased eiticiency and mileage per unit of fuel oil.
\Vhat I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising an electrical heating element, means to mount the heating element transversely of the bore of an intake manifold, and a heat radiating, fluid absorbing, electrically insulating cover for the heating element.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature this 26th day of April, 1920.
MILTON C. LOESCH.
