Description
A. AKEBOYD.`
Designers Paper.
NO. 145,269. v Patented Dec. 9,1873..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ABRAHAM AKEROYD, OE MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPRQVEMENT IN DESIGNERS PAPER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,269, dated December 9, 1873; application filed July 21, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM AKEEOYD, of Manchester, in the State of New Hampshire, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Design-Paper; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawing making a partof the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure 1 is a view of the ordinary designpaper now in use. Fig. 2 is a view of my irnproved paper, the dark spaces being printed some light shade.
The object of my invention is to produce a design-paper upon which designs may be easily and quickly made, and which will, at the same time, guide the designer in the execution of his work.
With the paper now in use, as shown in Fig.
' 1, there is not only much delay in lling in the light shades, but a great liability to make mistakes, even on the part of the most skillful designers, for the reason that, the spaces being very small, there is nothing to guide them, and they may easily go one space too far.
In my invention, as shown in Fig. 2, I print every other space (represented as black in the drawing) anylight or dark shade, the said light or dark shade representing filling and the empty spaces warp. Every other space printed a light or dark shade, asin Fig. 2, shows a plain weave, one thread up and one down. The alternate spaces may be dotted, it' desired. I consider, however, the shading' preferable. If, however, a gure is desired, and, for illustration, the filling required to float three threads, the designer would-paint over with some suitable color, from left to right, three spaces, beginning on the light shade and ending with the same, a white space being left upon each side. If warp is required to be shown on the surface, the designer paints downward in some distinct color, beginning and fini shing at a white space.
It will thus be seen that much time will be saved by having the light shades printed in, and that the designer will be guided in his work, for the reason that he begins and nishes upon the same space, either white or colored, and that, in order for him to make a mistake, he must go two spaces too far, which he would not be liable to do.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design-paper herein described, having every other space printed or dotted any light or dark shade, as and for the purposes specified.
Y'Vitnesses:
A. G. STEvENs, GEO. A. LITTLE.
ABM. AKEROYD.
