v G. A. REITER I SAFETY RAZ OR Filed Feb. 21 1922 INVEN TOR. 60574, r4000 Fare/e.
A TTORNEY Patented Apr. 17,3923.
\ parse stars GUSTAF ADOLF REITEE, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNEA.
SAFETY RAZGR,
Application filed February 21, 1922.. Serial .No. 538.22%.
To all whom it may concern: Y Be it known that I, GUSTAF AnoLr Burns, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, re-
' siding at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Safety Razor,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to safety razors, more particularly to a handle for safety razors and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide a razor in which the handle can be turned to most any convenient angle with respect to its cutting edge so that all the hairy parts of the face and neck are readily and conveniently accessible when shaving ones self; second, to provide a razor in which the handle can be turned to any desired angle and. secured in such position; third, to provide a razor handle of this class which may be made applicable to nearly all makes of safety razors; fourth, to provide a handle of this class which is applicable to devices in which variable, angular adjustment is necessary; fifth, to provide a novelly constructed safety razor handle and sixth, to provide a safety razor handle which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to adjust and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction. combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and articularly set forth in the a pended claims, reference being had to t e accompanying drawings and to the character of reference thereon which form apart of this application, inwhich:
Figure l is a side view of my razor showing an end view of the razor is a longitudinal sectiona view taken through 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is another side view of my razor with the handle turned at an angle with respect to the razor portion and Fig. 4 is-another side view thereof w th the razor portion at a right angle to that of Fig. 3 but with thehandle turned revoher 3, ball nut 4:, handle 5, and friction screw 6 constitute the principal parts and portions of my razor.
The blade retainer 1 is preferably a curved plate as shown, the outer surface being of portion; Fig. 2
lesser diameter than the inner one, and therefore converging at the sides in a comparatively sharp edge I. Said retainer is provided with pilot lugs l adapted to receive the blade 2 which is provided with holes 2 conforming therewith and adapted to slip overthe lugs 1 of said blade retainer 1. Said retainer is further provided with a threaded boss 1 in the central portion on the inner side thereof. A guard member 3 of similar shape is provided which is provided with teeth at the outer curved edges thereof for protecting the edge of the blade 2. Said guard member 3 is provided with holes 3 and 3 adapted to receive the pilotlugs 1 and the threaded boss 1 of the blade retainer 1. A. ball nut 4c provided with an internally threaded hole t and a flange 1 is adapted to be screwed over the threaded boss 1 of the retainer 1 and clamping the blade 2 between said retainer and said guard member. The ball nut t is further provided with a ball portion 4 at its outer end. The handle 5 is provided with a spherical shaped recess 5* adapted to receive the'ball portion 4: of said ball nut within said recess and retain the same by the cl'aws'5 extending beyond the opposite centers of the spherical recess and being depressed against said ball portion 4. The handle 5 is knurled at 5 to prevent the handle of the razor slipping out of the hand and is further provided with a reduced portion 5 to further aid in gripping and guiding the razor. The handle 5 is provided with a hole 5 extending longitudinally through the center of said handle and is further provided with an internally threaded portion 5 concentric with said first mentioned hole. A friction screw 6 is provided consisting of a threaded portion 6 and a reduced shank portion 6 adapted to engage the ball portion 4 of the ball nut 4 and adapted to be received by the internally threaded portion 5 and the hole 5 in the handle 5. Said friction screw is provided at its outer end with a knurled ball portion for gripping and turning the same.
lllt
and allowing the shank 6 to engage said ball portion again.
Although I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set vforth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, a blade retainer provided with a central threaded boss, a blade positioned on said blade retainer, a hollow internally threaded ball member engaging said threaded boss, a hollow handle provided at one end with a bifurcated portion having an internal spherically shaped recess adapted to receive said ball member and provided at its other end with an internally threaded portion and a long friction screw adapted to engage said ball member with one end and provided near its other end with an externally thread- (3d portion and an enlarged grip portion at said other end for locking said handle and said ball member relatively to each other.
2. In a device of the class described, a blade retainer provided with blade positioning lugs, a blade positioned on said blade retainer, aball shaped blade securing member, a hollow handle provided at one end with claws reduced at their ends and having internal concave recesses and. provided at its other end with an internally threaded portion and a long friction screw adapted to engage said ball member with one end and provided near its other end with an externally threaded portion and an enlarged ball shaped grip portion at said other end for locking, said handle and said ball member relatively to each other.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 13th day of February, 1922.
GUSTAF ADOLF REITER.
