G. WEBER LIQUID AIR BLAST CARTRIDGE Filed Sept. 2'7, 1919 WM Wm WM Patented Apr. 3, 1923.
UNITED STATS PATENT OFFICE.
GUILLAUME WEBER, 0F HAYANGE, LORRAINE, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO SOCIETE LES PETITS FILS DE FRANCOIS DE WENDEL ET CIE., OF PARIS, FRANCE.
LIQUID-AIR BLAST CARTRIDGE.
Application filed September 27, 1919.
To all 'm/tom it may ounce m:
Be it known that I, GU'ILLAUME \Vnenn, citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Hayange, Lorraine, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Liquid- Air Blast Cartridges (for which I have filed an application in Germany, dated May 30, 1916), of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved construction of liquid air blast cartridges, the envelope of which is formed of thin paper wound up in several layers and folded down at the ends after introduction of the mass which will form the explosive after being saturated with liquid air.
In the annexed drawing, given by way of example:
Figs. 1 and 2 are respectively a longitudinal and a cross section of a liquid air blast cartridge prepared in accordance with the invention.
Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively a longitudinal section and an end View of a similar cartridge provided with a primer.
The envelope (4 is formed of one or more thin paper sheets having a length which exceeds by several centimetres the length of the finished cartridge. Said paper is wound around a stick so that the envelope assumes a cylindrical or slightly conical form. The wound up envelope is first folded over at its bottom end as shown at c Fig. 1 and after the mass 6, which will form the explosive charge, has been introduced therein, the upper end 0 of the cartridge is folded or closed in the same manner as the bottom.
For the purpose of saturating with air the cartridge thus prepared, it isimmersed in a. vessel filled with liquid air which permeates the mass inside the cartridge by passing through the spaces cl left between the Serial No. 326,976.
small receptacle 6 for receiving the primer or fuse 7 which is held in position by means of a small plug g.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An air liquid blast cartridge comprising a pervio-us flexible envelope made of thin paper wound in several concentric layers and folded down at the ends, and a blasting charge in said envelope adapted to be impregnated with liquid air entering the cartridge at both extremities thereof and along the outer generatrix of the last layer.
2. An air liquid blast cartridge comprising a pervious flexible envelope made of thin paper wound in several concentric layers and folded down at one end, a tube inserted into the other end of said cartridge, means for fixing the tube to the envelope, a firing device in said tube, a plug for holding said firing means in the tube and a blasting charge in said envelope adapted to be impregnated with liquid air entering the cartridge at both extremities thereof and along the outer generatrix of the last layer.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUILLAUME \VEBER.
