STATIONARY HOSE REEL.
Application filed June 17, 1922.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WALTER A. CASPER and ARTHUR U. CASPER, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stationary Hose Reels; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,v and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to improvements in hose reels, the primary object of the invention residing in the provision of means whereby the reel may be supported from the ceiling of a basement to enable the hose to be drawn through the windo 7 as the same is wound on the reel.
A more specific object resides in the method of mounting the reel on its attaching bracket, whereby the same may be ad justed and locked in various positions with. relation to the bracket, thus accommodating various conditions respecting the position of the window with relation to the joists or bracing to which the bracket is attached.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, our invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter de scribed and more particularly defined by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodr ment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
In the acompanying drawing, we have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of the present inven tion constructed according to the best mode we have so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view through a portion of a structure, illustrating the method of attaching the reel.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detailed view of the reel, with parts broken away and in section to more clearly illustrate the structural features.

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a hose reel constructed and attached in accordance with our invention to the joist 2 in the ceiling of the basement 3, which basement is provided with a con ventional window 4:, through which the hose is to be wound on the reel.
The reel 1 comprises a yoke 5, the ends of which serve as a bearing for the crank rod 6. Mounted on the crank rod 6 and secured thereto are a pair of ends 7 provided with radial. arms 8 and an annular web 9, which web is ad apted to receive the ends of the rods 10, which are preferably riveted thereto. Rods 10 form the drum cage on which the hose is wound. Secured to one of the arms is a spring clip 11 for the reception of one end of the hose, the same being formed of resilient material in order to release the end of the hose when the same is drawn off of the reel, thereby eliminating the necessity and inconvenience of going into the. cellar and manually releasing the same.
In instances where the reel is to be attached to the overhead joist 2', we provide a bracket 12 which has a depending stud. 13 having a pin 14L passed through its lower end. The stud 13 is adaptedto receive the hub 15 formed in the yoke, the lower end of the hub being provided with a plurality of radial grooves 16 which drop over the pin 14 and lock the reel in any one of its adjusted positions.
Where the ceiling of the basement is plastered and it is desired to attach the reel directly thereto, we propose to use that form of bracket illustrated in Figure 5, which is provided with a horizontal attaching plate 17 from which depends the stud 13.
In practice, we have found that considerable difliculty is encountered where the hose is dragged across the casing of the window, the same resulting in wear on the hose and window casing, and also making it difficult to guide the hose on the reel. To overcome this we provide a guide 18 which we attach to the casing of the window 4:. The guide is formed from a windows and single piece of rod bent in the form of a loop and provided with a pair of vertical sleeves or rollers 19 and a horizontal sleeve 20. From the foregoing, it is obvious that where the hose is drawn through the guide the sleeves will roll on the rod, thereby eliminating any wear and enabling the hose to travel freely back and forth across the reel insuring even winding.
From the foregoing it will also be appreciated that regardless of the position of the joist. or means to which the attaching braclo ets are secured, the reel may be readily adj usted and locked in any position, so as to conform with the position of the window, by merely lifting the yoke on the stud and turning the same to the desired position in which one pair of the grooves 16 will drop over the pin to prevent turning of the yoke.
We claim:
1. A hose reel adapted to be secured to the ceiling of a basement adjacent one of its comprising, an attaching bracket having a depending stud, a yoke rotatably adjustable on the stud, means for locking the yoke against movement in its adjusted position, a shaft carried by the ends of the yoke, a pair of drum ends secured on the shaft and provided with radial arms connected by an annular web, cross rods secured to the annular Webs and connecting the drum ends, and a resilient clip secured to one of the arms.
2. A hose reel adapted to be secured to the ceiling of a basement adjacent one of its windows and comprising, an attaching bracket having a depending stud, a transverse pin carried by the lower end of said stud, a yoke having a hub mounted on said stud, a plurality of radial grooves in the hub adapted to selectively receive said pin to permit adjustment of the yoke and lock the same in its adjusted position, a shaft carried by the yoke, a pair of drum ends secured on the shaft and provided with radial arms connected by an annular web, cross rods riveted to the annular webs and connecting the drum ends, and a resilient clip secured to one of the arms for releasably retaining one end of the hose.
