A relatively wide faced spur ygear 48 is fixed on the cutter spindle 45, meshing with a driving gear 49 secured on the shaft 36, thus conveying rotary motion to the cutter'.
An offset arm 50 extends from the stand portion 16, the arm terminating in an elongated bearing 51', mounting the shaft 52, this shaft having attached at its inner end a pulley 53 driven by a belt 54 from the pulley 26. v
The outer end of the shaft 52 has fixed to it a cone 55 over the steps of which may be trained a belt 56 leading to a similar reversed cone 57 fixed on a horizontal shaft 58, housed partially in a bearing 59 extending Afrom the top of the stand, and a pair of lug extensions 60 also formed with the stand at the rear near the top.
Fixed to the shaft 58, between the lugs 60 is aworm or helix 61 used to drive the turn table 62, the latter' being fitted to rotate within an annular recess in thetop of the stand, circumjacentthe center and held in position by a Iring 63 loosely clamped to the stand. j
Itwill be understood that the turn table is provided with peripheral teeth, engaging t-he worm 61 and, as shown, ` clearance recesses 64 and 65 are formed respectively in the adjacent-surfaces of the turn-table and stand top. i

All of the edges are smoothly rounded and finished as they receive the leather blanks when in a softened condition, the shape of the recesses being transferred to the blanks in the manner of a die or mould.
Immediately adjacent the advance edge of the cutter 47 is a radially disposed shaft 7 5, its inner end'being mounted in a bracket 76 adjustably secured to the stand center 20, and its outer end in a similar bracket 77 fixed on the .extension 18.
Secured to the shaft 75 is a spur pinion 78 meshing with a circular rack 80 extending upfrom the turn-table 62 near its inner periphery, as best shown in Fig. 3.
Fixed to the shaft 75 near its outer end is a roller 81 adapted to engage the inclined face 82 of raising cams 83, which are arcuately formed and secured near the outer peripheriesof the segments 68.
. `The outer portion of the cam 83, over which the roller 81 travels terminates abruptly while the inner portion 84 continues in lengthabout one third of the length of the depressions 70, both portions attaining their full height at points coincident with the advancing ends of the depressions.
A pair of bearings 86 and 87 similarly to the bearings 76 and 77 are mounted in a like manner rearwardly on the stand and carry a shaft 85.
All of these several bearings contain slotted openings receptive of the shafts and permitting them to rise, due to the action of the cams, against the pressure of spring 88 set in cups 89 and controlled by screws 90 as s hown best in Fig. 7, the spring forcing the shafts downward to the .bottoms of the slots 91 as soon as the rollers have passed the cams. j l
The roller 92 is fixed'to the shaft 85 at the end of a conical roller 94, its base or largest diameter being outward, and its surface corrugated o-r roughened as shown to tightly engage the leather blanks as they are passed below. The shaft 85 is driven by a spur pinion 95 meshing with the circular rack 80.
It is noted that the roller 92 is closer to the center of the stand than the roller 81 and, therefore, after being raisedby the inclined surfaces 82, travels over the cam 83, holding the shaft 85 and corrugated roller out of contact with the work a greater interval of time. j v
Slidable on the shaft 75 is a sleeve 97 extending from a narrow smooth'faced roller 98 pressed normally outward by an encir-` cling compression spring 99, and fixed to the outer end of the sleeve 97 is a disc 100, the disc, sleeve and roller 98 acting as a unit. v The disc 100 is caused to slide along the shaft 75, towards the center of the stand, by means of cams 101 formed with the'segments. 68, these cams being adapted to cause the roller 98 to follow a path indicated by the inner edge 72 of the work holding recesses, clamping the blanks in the recess immediately adjacent the cutting edge of the revolving knife 47.
When this operation has been performed and the turn-table has carried the parts from under the knife, the lblanks being skived and formed, are now ejected which is accomplished as follows In the center of each recess is an opening receptive of a plunger 105 hav'ing an enlarged head held normally level inthe bottom of the recess by a coiled spring 106.
Carried in a projection of the stand is a sliding plunger 107 having an anular groove 108 and pressed normally upward by a coiled compression spring 109 surrounding the stem 110 of the plunger. i
The lower end of the stem is threaded right hand and connected by a coupling 111 and held rigid in a fork 113 in which are two fixed pins 114.
Formed on the peripheral edge of the segments 68 are extending cams 115 the drop of which is substantially in a plane with the radial center of the depression 70.
Passing through the stand Vextension 18 are two radial slots, respectively 116 and 118, through the former of which extends a lever 117, pivoted on an arm 119, extending from the stand and having attached to it a rod 120, pressed normally towards the plunger 107, by a spring 121, so as to enter the recess 108 and retain the plunger when in a retracted position until released by the cam.
When so released the plunger 107 is forced up, making contact with the end of the plunger 105, causing it to rise and expel the blank from the recess, the plungers being in alignment during that movement.
Another lever 125 is pivoted in the slot 118 so as to be actuated by the cams- 115 as they pass and connected with the lower end of the lever, by a link 126, is a curved lever 127, its bent. end 128 extending between the pins 114 of the fork in such manner as to exert a pull on the same, retracting the plunger 107, whereupon 'the detent 120 enters the recess and holds it until again released.
In operation, the softened blanks are placed over or partially in the recesses as the machine operates and as the table revolves are pressed firmly by the roller 94 and held inposition for the cutting operation of the knife 47 in a manner which will be readily understood.
The continuous further advancement of the machine carries the skived blanks beyond the cutter and expels the same automatically as described.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A skiving machine comprising a stand, a segmentally sectional turn-table rotatable on said stand, each section having a work blank receiving recess, a rotary knife above said turn-table, a corrugated conical roller mounted radially on said stand over the turn-table adapted to impinge upon the work blanks adjacent said knife, and means for periodically raising said roller during the entrance of a blank thereunder.
2. A skiving machine comprising a` stand, a segmentally sectional turn-table rotatable on said stand, each section having a work blank receiving recess, a rotary knife above said turn-table, a corrugated conical roller mounted radially on said stand over the turn table adapted to impinge upon the work blanks adjacent said knife, cams on said turn-table adapted to raise said roller at fixed intervals, and means on said turn-table for rotating said roller.
3. A skiving machine comprising a stand, a segmentally sectional turn-table rotatable on said stand, each section having a work blank receiving recess, means for continuously actuating said turn-table, a rotary knife supported above said turn-table, a clamp roller ournalled on said stand bridging said turn-table adjacent the knife and means for raising said roller coincidentally with the entrance of a blank therebelow,
4. A skiving machine comprising a stand, a segmentally sectional turn-table rotatable on said stand, each section having a work blank receiving recess, means for continuously actuating said turn-table, a rotary knife supported above said turn-table, .a clamp roller journalled on said stand bridging said turn-table adjacent the knife and means for raising said roller coincidentally with the entrance of a` blank therebelow, and means for moving said roller transversely of said turn-table to follow the outline of a work blank thereon.
5. A skiving machine comprising a stand, a turn-table mounted thereon, a rotary knife disposed over said turn-table, a pressure roller mounted adjacent said knife, means for moving said roller transversely over the face of said turn-table, a corrugated roller disposed radially rearward of said pressure roller, means for rotating the rollers simultaneously, and means for raising said rollers in sequence at the entrance of work blanks therebelow.
6. A skiving machine comprising a stand, a turn-table mounted thereon, a rotary knife disposed over said turn-table, shafts on said stand bridging said turn-table, bearings for said shafts permitting upward movement, means for rotating said shafts, pressure rollers on said shafts impinging on said turntable and means for periodically raising said shafts.

A skiving machine comprising a rotary table having work receiving recesses, means for clamping blanks in the recesses, a rotary cutter for trimming the blanks, a spring actuated knock-out at the bottoms of the recesses, said knock-out being held normally retracted, a plunger for actuating said knock-out, cams for releasing said plunger, a spring for actuating said plunger, and cam actuated means for retracting said plunger.
