MAURICE C. LATIMER,OF CANN'ELTON', INDIANA. y I I DISPLAY DEVICE.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, MAURICE C. LATIMER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Cannelton, in the county of Perry and tate of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an advertising or display device and an object of the invention is to provide a mechanism which will operate to move or'operate a commercial article in such a manner as to simulate its proper type of operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide an advertising or display device as specified which is comparatively simple in construction and which is designed to be electrically or automatically operated for a protracted period without requiring the attention of an operator.
A further object of this invention is to provide a support which carries a suitable track over which the commercial article carrier travels and to provide a link mechanism connected to the carrier for moving it backwards and forwards over the track structure.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved advertising or display device.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the device.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective of the device showing the commercial article carrier.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved display or advertising device comprises a support 1 which in the drawing is illustrated to simulate an ironing board as a commercial electric iron is illustrated. as used in connection therewith. The support 1 comprises the board 2 supported by suitable supporting legs 3 which also carry a track structure 1 beneath the board or top 2 of the support. The track structure 4 embodies a fiat board bordered by upstanding guard rails 5 which prevent lateral movement of the car or carriage 6 relative to the track 4.
The car or carrier 6 comprises a mounted body 7 which is supported on the track 4: by rollers 8 rotatably carried by the body.
The standard 9 rises from the center of the car 6 and extends through the longitudinal central slot 10 formed in the top 1. A relatively large rectangular head 11 is mounted upon the upper end of the standard 9and it overhangs the edges of the slot 10 as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The commercial article, which in the present in stance is an electric iron as shown at 12, is mounted upon the head 11 for movement with the carrier 6. Afigure 13, simulating a woman or operator of the iron 12, is adapted to be positioned in proximity to the supporting structure 1 and it is desirable to have the arm 14; of the figure 13, which arm engages the commercial article 12, pivotally connected to the figure 13 so that the. arm may swing in a lifelike manner with the movement of the commercial article or iron 12 over the support 1. The figure 13 may be made of paper, wax, or any suitable. material and in case an iron is used as shown in the drawing an article of wearing apparel or household linen, as shown at 15, is mounted over the support 1 giving the impression that the figure 13 is ironing the piece of household linen or wearing apparel during the operation of the display apparatus.
The car 6 has a fiat bar 16 pivotally connected thereto by means of a pin 17. The bar 16 extends slidably through a suitable opening 18 in one of the supports 3 and it is pivotally connected at its outer end to a link 19. The link 19 is in turn eccentrically connected to a disc 20 so that rotation of the disc will reciprocate the bar 16 and move the car 6 backwards and forwards {over the rail 1 consequently moving the iron or commercial article 12 backwards and forwards over the support 1. In the drawing the disc 20 is illustrated as mounted upon the oscil-. lating mechanism 21 of an oscillating electric fan motor 22 of any approved type but it is to be understood that any suitable mechanism may be employed for rotating the disc 20 without departing from the spirit of this invention, the oscillating fan motor being shown merely to show the adaptability of the display device. The prime mover or motor 22 is to be hidden from view by a shield or guard 23 adapted to carry suitable advertising material for co-operation with the display apparatus.
While in the drawing, the device is illustrated for operating an electric iron, it is to be understood that it may be adapted for operating a vacuum.cleaner, moving the same backward and forward over the support 1, or any analogous commercial article without departing from the spirit of this invention.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. In an advertising or display device, a supporting structure including a top provided with a longitudinal slot, a track carried by said supporting structure below the top, a car movable over said track, a stand ard carried by said car and projecting through said slot, and means for moving said'car in backward and forward motion.
2. In an advertising or display device, a
supporting structure including a top provided with a longitudinal slot, a track car-- ried by said supporting structure below the top, a car movable over said track, a standard carried by said car and projecting through said slot, a bar connected to said car, a disc, means for rotating said disc, and a link eccentrically connected to said disc and pivotally connected to said bar for moving said bar.
3. A display device comprising in combination, an ironing board having a slot eX tending the entire length thereof, an iron of a greater width than the slot for sliding movement over the board, a standard secured on the under surface of the iron and passed downwardly through the slot, a slide connected to the standard, and means for re ciprocating said slide backward and forward.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MAURICE C. LATIMER.
