FUSE BOX.
Application filed September 22, 1919. fierial We. SHAWL '1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Aoonrn OLnvIN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and tate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuse Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fuse boxes, and has for its principal object to provide a box of non-inflammable material that can be quickly assembled or disassembled at the place of use.
Another object is to improve the construction of fuse boxes by providing an all-metal box with interfitting projections and grooves which can be conveniently clamped .into position for use.
A further object is to provide a fuse box of simple and inexpensive construction, composed of parts not liable to be harmed by exposure to the elements and not subjected to strain or wear.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the followin description, in which reference is had to t e accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodlment of my invention and in which similar reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fuse box constructed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail elevation of one of the interfitting projections and grooves;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the clamp shown in position in Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic view of the walls of the fuse box in dis-assembled posi tion.
In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates a blank of resilient metal provided along one side with extensions 6, preferably formed in keystone or dovetail shape and on the other side with correspondinglyshaped grooves 7. This blank 5 is adapted to form the bottom and the two end walls of the fuse box, being bent along the dotted lines shown in Figure 4 when 1n use. At each end of the blank 5 is referably formed an apertured tab 8 whereby the box can be conveniently secured in position against the wall or other desired place of use. One side wall 9 is formed with grooves 7 adapted to receive the keystone-shaped projections 6 of the bottom and end walls of the blank 5, while the other side wall 10 is provided with keystone or dovetail-shaped projections 6 adapted to fit into the slots 7 of the bottom and end walls. When desired for use, the end walls are bent upwardly from the bottom wall into substantially the position shown in Figure 1, and, being made of re silient material, can be sprung outwardly to a slight extent to facilitate the positioning of the side walls 9 and 10, which are placed close to the edges of the end walls and the projections snapped into the corresponding grooves.
To insure the holding of the side walls in position, I preferably rovide one or more clamps 11 shaped pre erably as shown in Figures 1 and 3 and having a body portion provided with slots 12 adapted to fit over screws or pins 13 suitably secured in the end walls of the box and also having a pair of downturned flanges 14 which engage the outer edges of the side walls 9 and 10. One or more openings ,15 are also placed in the bod portlon of the clamp to enable the rea (1y fastening of the device to any desire object.
To enable the grouping or gauging of several boxes in close relation, I may form in the side Walls a depression 16 (see Figure 2) of substantially the same depth as the width of the clamp and into which fit the flanges 14 of the clamps. In this manner a smooth side wall is secured which will fit flush against the adjacent wall of the next box in the group. If desired, the clamps can be so placed that the flanges engage the end walls of the box instead of the side walls.
While it will be apparent that the illustrated embodiment of my invention herein disclosed is well calculated to adequately fulfill the objects primarily stated, it IS to be understood that the invention is susceptible to variation, modification and change within the spirit and scope of the sub'olned claim.
aving described by invention, I claim:
A fuse box having bottom and end walls formed of a single piece of resilient metal and provided with keystone-shaped grooves along the edges on one side of the bottom and end walls, and similar projections along the opposite edges of said portions, a side wall provided with keystone-shaped grooves adapted to interfit with the projections on the bottom and both end walls, a second side wall provided with keystone-shaped projections adapted to fit into said grooves in the bottom and both end walls, and a clalnp adapted to engage the side walls to maintaln them in position, the side walls being provided with notches to receive the ends of the clamp of sufiicient depth to maintain 10 the outer edges of the clamp in substantial alignment with the outer surface of the side Walls.
