WALTER F. KRENZ, 0F MENDOTA, ILLINOIS.
CLUTCH LOCK.
Application filed November 20, 1920. Serial No. 425,489.
. Be it known that I, WALTER F. KRENZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mendota, in the county of La Salle and State 6 of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in C lutch Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in motor operated vehicles and has especial relation to an attachment for a F ordson tractor, the object being toprovide means whereby the clutch may be held out so that the tractor may remain at a standstill with out shifting the gears into neutral position.
More specifically stated, the invention aims to provide an attachment which may be operated to eng controls the clutch position, so that the engine will age the foot lever which and hold it in depressed be disengaged from the transmission mechanism. This is especially useful when stopping the tractor in a field, in that it eliminates shifting the gear into neutral, while the device is so constructed as to automatically disengage when the clutch lever is slightly depressed preparatory to reengaging the clutch.
With the above and other the invention furth objects in view, er includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawlngs and pointed out in the a In the drawings ppended claim.
Figure 1 is an elevation of a fragmentary portion of a Ford son tractor with the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same. Figure 3 i a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the clutch gaged by the pedal pedal depressed and enlock.
Figure 4c is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 41-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of the attachment per Referring specifically to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding part s. the reference character 10 indicates a portion of the transmission housing of a Fordson tractor, to which is bolted the usual cap 11 for covering the opening through which a pulley shaft is, connected for the pn rpose of converting the tractor into astationary engine for the operation of various devices. The reference character 12 indicates the foot pedal which controls the clutch and which is depressed for the release of the clutch and returned to engaged position under the action of a spring. All of the foregoing elements form a part of the Fordson tractor.
When it is desired to disengage the clutch, it is necessary to manually depress the foot pedal 12 and hold the same in depressed position during the disengagement of the clutch and it is often desirable to hold the clutch disengaged for an appreciable length of time, for example, when the operator desires to leave the seat of the machine with the engine running and without shifting the transmission into neutral, it is the purpose of the present invention to provide means which is operable when the foot pedal of the clutch is depressed, to engage this pedal to hold it in depressed position. This means includes a bar 13, which has one end pivotall v connected as indicated at 14. to a short link 15, which is bent intermediate of its ends to form an offset portion 15', the offset portion end of this link being rigidly secured upon one of the bolts which holds the plate 11 to the transmission housing, as shown at 16. Secured to the lever 13, preferably by means of the pivot bolt 14 and an additional bolt 17, is a hook arm 18, the hook being located at the outer end of this arm.
en it is desired to hold the clutch in disengaged position, the clutch pedal 12 is depressed by the foot of the operator and the bar 13 swung upward so that the hook 18 will engage over the clutch pedal arm, whereupon the clutch pedal will be effectively held against upward movement. When it is desired to release the clutch pedal to reengage the clutch. the said pedal may be slightly depressed so as to permit of the disengagement of the hook 18 and the bar 13 may be permitted to drop back into position or may be swung back by the operator.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as propefly fall within the scope of the appended c aim.
Having described the invention What is rigidly secured to the transmission housing claimed is:- A or the vehicle, an arm securedto the pivot 10 The combination With a motor operated pin of said lever and to the lever respecvehicle including a spring actuated clutch tively and a hook formed on the free end of 5 pedal of a hand lever, a short linkn pivotally the arm and being adapted to engage the secured to one end thereof, an offset portion clutch pedal as and for the purpose specified. formed by said link being bent intermediate In testimony whereof I affix my signature. 15 of its ends and said offset portionbeing WALTER F. KRENZ.
