A still further object ofthe invention is the provision of a tooth holdingdevice for use in conjunction witha comb of the construction above stated. I

With the foregoing objects in view and others, the invention resides in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described, defined in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a comb made in accordance with this invention, but with some of the teeth omitted.

Figures 27,28 and 29 illustrate a device for holding teeth when they are removed from a comb constructed according to this invention.

Referring to Figures 1 to 6 inclusive of the drawings,-1 indicates a tooth holding strip approximately rectangular in plan made ofany suitable metal or material, such as celluloid, and 2 indicates an end piece fixed thereto, the latter being providedwith a slot?) adaptedv to receive the co-operating end of the holdingstrip 1 which may be gummed or otherwise secured therein. The end piece 2 is also provided. at one side there- .of with a semi-circular flange 45 which is bored and screw threadedto receive and retain the correspondingly screw-threaded end 5 of a tooth locking member 6 which is also provided with an end piece 7 in which there is formed a groove 8 to receive the other end of the holding strip 1. This endpiece 7 is also formed with a semi-circular flange 9 bored but not screw-threaded adapted to receive the locking member 6 in such amanner as will permit its revolution by a small wheel 10 fixed on the end thereof.

whilst it is provided with a rectangular slot and beheld by the holding strip 1.

At on side thereof each tooth is also formed with a semi-circular projection 15 which is bored to provide a semi-circular recess'16 of the. same diameter as the depression 11 in the holding strip 1. Thus, after the required number of teeth 12 have been threaded on to the holding strip, the complee mentary recesses 16 in theteeth 12 and the depression 11 in the strip 1 form a circular passageway extending longitudinally of the comb into which can be inserted the locking member 6, the screw-threaded end 5 of which is adapted to screw into the screwed boreof the semi-circular flange 4 of the end piece 2,

as shown in Figure 1, and thus the teeth 12 will be locked on the holding strip 1 between the end pieces 2 and '7, when the comb 5 is ready for use.

The end pieces 2 and T extend beyond the sides of the retaining strip 1 and preferably to a distance equal to that of the combing points of the teeth 12,v and they more or less form end teeth as will readily be seen in the drawings.

In order that the teeth 12 shallalways be placed on the strip 1 in the correct manner, the rectangular slot and the semi-circular projection in each tooth and the co-opersting flange e: on the end piece 2 are not centrallydisposed of the length thereof, but are formed more or 1 n arer one end than the other. Thus, there will be avoided the 'possibility of placing the individual teeth wrongly on the strip 1 and this will ensure allthe shoulders [You the teeth. 12 facing in one direction so that-all the teeth will be properly spaced.

The details of construction of the comb shown by Figures 7 to 12 inclusive are similar to those described above and'need not therefore'be described at length herein as the only di flerence consists in that the teeth 12 have service points at one end only, the end pieces 2 and 7 being modified to corre- 40 ride a comb of a pleasing appearance.

The comb'shown in Figures 13 to 19 is modified in that instead of the tooth locking; member 6 being screw-threaded as above and adapted to be turned to lock the teeth 12in this case it is fixed to its end plate 7v and curved throughout its length as shown in Figure 19.. and, being-made of flexible metal or material, on being passed through entral passageway formed'by the semi-circular'recesses 16 formed in the teeth 12, the said member 6 will be straightened and this will provide the necessary locking action.

Furthermore, the semi-circular depression 11 in the supporting strip 1 is dispensed with and the'l'ocking member 6is therefore also 'semi-circular or flattened on one side as it only has to fit the semi-circular recesses 16 in the teeth 12. On the other hand,'the depression in the strip 1- can be retained and 60 the flange 15' and recess16 in each tooth 12 dispensed with.

Referring now to Figures 2?, 28 and 29, there isshown a device for holding spare teeth for the comb or for receiving the teethfrom: the comb when it is desired to replace a broken tooth or to remove the teeth from the comb "for cleansing or other pur-- poses.

This device comprises an elongated body portion 20 ofthe same cross section asthe tooth supporting strip 1, that is to say it'is rectangular in cross section and is'provided with a semi-circular depression 21 in one face thereof if the comb with which it is to co operate has a similar depression.

One end of this device is formed with a head 22 which acts as a stop for the teeth 12 as will be realized by a consideration of Figure 29, whilst at the other end the body portion is'provided with an elongated circular rod 23.

\Vhen it is desire 'l'to use the device the end piece 7 and the locking member 6 are removed from the comb and the said rod 23 is then passed through the longitudinal passageway formed by the semi-circular demession 11 in the strip 1 and the c'o-operatinc; recesses 16 in the teeth 12' when the latter can be readily slipped off the supporting strip 1 on to the body 20 of the device.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A comb of the class described, having, in combination, a tooth supporting strip, a series of teeth arranged thereon and projecting therefrom. an end piece carried by the-supporting strip at one 'end for holding the teeth in position in one direction, a second end piece, a locking member extending therefrom and adapted'to engage the-series of teeth and PIGSStllQB! in the opposite direction and lock them on thesupportin strip. 2.
