GOPHER POISON ER.
Application filed March 10, 1921. Serial No. 451,323.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILLIAM J. MnRvYN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gull Lake, in the Province ofv Saskatchewan and Dominion or" Canada, hive invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gopher Poisoners, of which the following is a specification} This invention relates to improvements in dispensing devices and more particularly to a poison distributor for gophers.
An important object of this invention is to provide means whereby a predetermined quantity of poisoned grain or the like may be discharged from the distri buter at will.
A further object of the invention is to pro-- vide a distributer of the class described which is simple, efficient and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the in vent-ion will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application and wherein like numerals are employed to designate. like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved distributer,
view taken on line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary bottom view of the device.
In the drawing. wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a body which as illustrated in Figure 1 is in the form of an annulus. The body or annulus 5 is supported by means of apa ir of legs 6 having laterally projecting feet 7. The upper portions of the legs are provided with attaching portions 7 secured to the an nulus by means of rivets 8 or the like. A cylindrical receptacle 10 is arranged within the annulus 5 and is provided with an openiug 11 adapted to be brought into registration with an opening 12 in the annulus whereby wheat or the like may be introduced into the receptacle 10 from a hopper designated by the numeral 13. The cylinder 10 may of course rotate within the annulus :3 and provided with a discharge opening 15 adapted to be brought into registration with an opening 16 in the bottom of the annulus.
lVhen the openings 15 and 16 are in registration the poisoned wheat within the replan Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional ceptacle is discharged. However, the quan tity of wheat to be discharged is not regulated by the degree of registration of the openings 15 and 16 but by a. sliding door 17 supported beneath the opening 16 by a pair of guide flanges 18. One end portion of the sliding door 18 may be provided with a manipulating fiangeQO by means of which the device may be manually gripped for adjusting the same \Vhen the door is partially closed as illustrated in Figure 8, only a small quantity of grain may be discharged and when the door is entirely opened a larger quantity of grain may be discharged. The cylinder 10 is provided atone end with radial flange 21 which cont-acts with the adjacent end of the annulus for holding the receptacle against endwise movement in one direction.
The'receptacle 10 is held against endwise movement in the other direction by means of an operatingbar or handle 25 which is detachably secured to one closed end of the receptacle by means of screws or other fastening devices 26. As illustrated in Fig ure 1, one end portion of the handle 25 or; tends a bove the receptacle while the other end'extends below the same as indicated at 27 to cooperate witha pair of lugs 29 formed on the legs to limit the rotary movement of the receptacle. l
With reference to the foregoing description it will be apparent that adevice constructed in accordance with this invention may be employed for conveniently dispensing the desired quantity of grain for the purpose of poisoning gophers. The device is simple to operate, durable in use and may be manufactured atan extremely low cost.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 1. A poison distributer comprising an annular body, nular body and having laterally projecting lugs, a receptacle snugly and rotatably arranged in said body and having anannular flange engaging one side of the body whereby to limit the endwise movement of the receptacle in one direction, a handle connected to said receptacle and having one terminal portion extending beyond the body and engaging said legs whereby'to limit the rotation of the receptacle, and a hopper mounted on said body. I
2. A poison distributor comprising a body, a cylindrical receptacle armnged within the spaced legs supporting the anbody, said body and said receptacle being provided with discharge means, a door controlling said discharge means, and means to limitthe rotation of said receptacle.
3. A poison distributer ot' the class described comprising an annulus, supporting legs secured to the annulus and having laterally projecting stop elements, a receptacle rotatably mounted within said annulus, said annulus and said receptacle being provided with pairs of openings adapted for registration, a hopper secured to said annulus at the opening in said annulus, a door slidable over the other opening in said annulus, one end portion of said receptacle being provided with a radial flange engaging the adjacent end of said annulus to limit the endwise movement of said receptacle in one direction, and a handle secured to the other end of said receptacle and engaging the end of the annulus to limit the endwise movement of the receptacle in the other direction, one end of said handle being extended below the receptacle and cooperating with said stop elements to limit the rotation of said receptacle.
4:. A poison distributer comprising a body, a receptacle arranged therein, and a handle secured to one end of said receptacle and contacting with the adjacent side of said body whereby to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in one direction, said receptacle being provided with an annular flange engaging the body to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in the other direction.
Apoison distributer comprising a body, a receptacle arranged therein and having an annular flange engaging one side of said body whereby to limit the endwise movement of the receptacle in one direction, and a bandle secured to one end of said receptacle and cbntacting W'th the adjacent side of said body whereby to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in the other direction, said receptacle being provided with discharge means.
6. A poison distributer comprising a body,
a receptacle arranged therein, a handle secured to one end 01 said receptacle and contacting with the adjacent side of said body whereby to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in one direction, and spaced stop elements associated with said body and arranged in the path of travel of said handle whereby to limit the rotation of said receptacle.
T. A poison distributer comprising a body, a receptacle arranged therein, a handle secured to one end of said receptacle and con tacting with the adjacent side of said body whereby to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in one direction, and spaced stop elements associated with said body and arranged in the path of travel of said handle whereby to limit the rotation of said receptacle, said receptacle being provided with means engaging said body to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in the other direction.
8. A poison distributer comprising a body, a receptacle rotatable therein, said body and said receptacle being provided with discharge openings adapted for registration, a door carried by said body for controlling said openings, and a hopper for feeding said receptacle;
9. A poison distributer comprising a body having supporting means, a receptacle rotatably arranged therein, said body and said receptacle being provided with discharge openings adapted for registration, and a handle connected to said receptacle and engaging the body to hold the receptacle against endwise movement in one direction, one terminal portion of said handle being adapted to engage said supporting means whereby the rotation of the body is limited.
10. A poison distributor comprising a body, a. receptacle arranged therein, said body and said receptacle being provided with discharge openings, legs connected to said body, and a handle connected to said receptacle and engaging said legs to limit the rotation of said body.
