Be it known that we, VIIJJA'M E. Bus and l/VILLIAM Srirrsorr, a citizen of the United States of America and a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, respectively, residing at Detroit in the county of lVayne and Stateof Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvemerits in Trolley Switches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates'to'trolley switches. an dhas for itsobject the provision'o'f an improved construction by means of which a trolley may be readily moved from one track to another in which the pivot secur ing the angularly adjustable track P01131011 to a stationary track portion has its axis of rotation in registration with the gap be tween the-angularly adjustable track portion and the stationary track portion; in
which a wheeled truck supports the free end of the angularly adjustable track portion and is engageable with a keeper for register ing the free end with the other stationary track portion. Another object of the invention is to provide a, pivot for the angularly adjustable track portion. comprising hinges at theupper and lower sides thereof, the lower hinge being flat to permit ofpassage of the trolley, and the upper, hinge having one hinge member bifurcatedand embracing the othertobetter take care of the A further object is the provision ofa stop! at the free end of the angularly adjustable track portion extending adj acent to the end of a branchtraek when the angularly adjustable portion is in registration with the main track to prevent accidental disengagement of a trolley from the branch track. Other objects of the invention reside in the "novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts more fully hereinafter set forth;
In the drawings:
Figure-l is atop planview of a trolley switch embodying ourinvention;
Figure 2 is a side. elevationthereof;
Figure 3 1s an end vlew'thereof;
vFigure 4: is a top plan view o-f the truck" and-a keeper engaged by the truck;

land 2 are respectivelylhe'; frontand and the branch track {t are suspended" after the usual manner" and are preferably "1' beams for supporting; the trolley 5' from the lower flanges. '6 iSa triangularframe work preferably formed of angle bars for maintaining the parts'in fixed relation; and
in detail, this frame Work comprises the iendi angle bar 7 extending transverselyof and rigidly secured tothe rear traclr'portion 2, and branch track 4, the end angle bar sextending transversely of and rigidlysecured to the front track portion; 1 andtheside angle bars 9rigidly secured tothe ends of the endangle bars 7 andS.
The angularly adjustable portionB hasits front endjregistering with the front track portion 1 and is slightly spaced therefrom to permit of limited swinging to register-the rear end of the .angula rly adjustable portion with the f rear track portion '2' and branch track 4. This front endis pivotally secured to the front track portion with the aX-is of'the pivotin registrationwith' the gap between the 1 angularly adjustable portion and the f front track portion. 'lhispivot comprises the upperand lower hlnges l0 and ll,' and as shown particularly in Figures 7 and-85athe' upper hinge 10 has the pair ofcooperating hinge members 12 and 13 respectively 53- edly secured theupper flanges of theangularly adjustable portionfi and track portion '1. For the purpose of providing a, c v simple construotion'ofupper hinge whichis eoinparatively cheap tomanufacture and at l I the same time will properly takefoareof'the i stresses, the 1 hinge member. 12 is bifu'rcatedi and com-prises the loweif section 14 and the upper section 1 5, the former of which is formed of agobd weeringinieteriiilsuch as steel, While the latter is formed of a cheaper material such as cast iron. The pin'16 the axis of Which i'egis't'ersiwith the gap between the angulerly adjustable 'Iportion'3' and front track portion 1, is fixedly secured at its upper end 1n the upper section 1-3, and extends through the hinge member 13 einbriiced by the furcations of the hinge member 12 1nd into the section let. Thelo'wer hinge 11 as" shown particularly in Figures 9 end lO is formed of the 'coope'reting'hingemembers and 18 which are respectivelyfixedly secured to the lower feces of the lower flenges ofthe angulerlj" adjustable portion 3 and front track portion 1. v These hinge members are flat and furthei'nior'ethe hi1 gemembei 17 'is provided with the Circular recess T open h its outer side for engagement the circularjheed 20 of'the hingenieniherj18 theerruiig eni ent" being: such the't but] enipamtirelylittle spe ce is required belo W: the lower flenges of the angula'l'ly adjustehlei portion and front. port-ion, thereby" redueing the amount of cleiirzi nce in 'the i rziihe of'tlie "eel-- ley 5 neces I thereof.
