IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWS,-

Spcication forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,707, dated November 18, 1871i; application filed To all whom it 'may concern:

Be it known that we, WILLIAM T. SErPP, CHARLES J. PETERSON, and RoBAsoN L. Mc-

LURD, of Brevard Station, in the county of Gaston and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Plow, of which the following is a specication:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a side elevation of our improved plow; Fig. 2, a rear view of the same; Fig. 3, a detail side view of the land-side, share, and shoe detached; and Fig. 4, a bottom view of the land-side.

Our invention is a plow adapted for ready adjustment to run at dierent depths in the soil, by changing the angle or inclination of the standard and shoe or shovel to the beam, also of the share or shovel `to the standard, the construction and arrangement of parts being as hereinafter described.

A in the drawing represents the beam of the plow; B, the stock or standard, made of two bars, which are firmly applied to the landside C, and by means of slots a and wedge or key b, adjustably connected to beam A, so that the share may be elevated o'r depressed, according to the degree of depth the share is desired to be used. The beam A is made of one strong bar of iron with a hook at the front end, to which the single-tree is attached without any additional ring, causing the plow to run more steadily. Beam A and land-side C are strongly and securely connected to the handles D by a suitable number. of screw-bolts and nuts. The land-side C passes between standard-bars B, and is provided in front of them with a broader head, C', whose face fits exactly the under side of share E, so as to form the lower support of the same. To the middle part of the land-side C is screwed rigidly the shoe or projecting piece F, which is of L-shaped cross-section, extending around the bottom and one side of the land-side C, which is recessed back of standards B, so that the lower side of head C', standards B, and shoe F, form one straight and continuous line. The shoe F protects the land-side C against wear and tear, and may easily and with little expense be replaced without necessitatin g the unfastening and rewelding of the bolts connecting the land-side, standards, and beam. tion of the main parts of the plow are thereby obtained by comparatively simple means. The share E rests on head C' near its point,

and may therefore be made lighter than usual.-

The shaping of the share is therefore easily accomplished. The share docs not come in contact with the standards B, but rests slightly in front of the same, which renders the connection of the share with the supports more secure.

The land-side and the share being most exposed to wear and tear, are also repaired readily and conveniently, without injuring the connecting parts. This, and the advantage of making the stock of the plow of iron, makes it a strong and durable plow.

Having`thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As an improvement in plows, the combination of beam A, standards B, which are adjustable by key b, land-side C, shoe F, and detachable share E, substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. In combination with standard-bars Band head C', the top.support G, sliding adjustably between the bars and share E, fastened by wedges d1 d3, as described.

3. The top adjustable support G, having wider head with recess e', and slotted arm d2, as specified. 4
