Description

Feb. 27, 1923. 1,4465@ H. I. GREINERT.
V DETONATING TOY.
FILED Nov. s, 1921.
'HERMAN JOSEPH GRENERT, GFV BUFFALO, NEW YORK,
DETNATXNG TOY.
Application filed November To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HERMAN J. GnniNnnr, a citizen oi the United States, residing at lu'alo, in the county of Erie and State ol New vrork, have invented certain nenY and useful Improvements in Detonating rloys, oi which the following is a speciiication.
rhis invention relates to detonating toys, and is an improvement on the construction shown in my prior Patent No. 694l,633.
ln the said patent, there is shown a detonating toy comprising ay traction wheel having concentric flanges forming cartridge rcceiving chambers, spring pressed hammer, and cams 'formed on said Wheel to raise the hammers and cause them to strike cart-ridges arranged in openings in said cartridge receiving members.
in object of the present invention is the provision of a toy of this character having a hammer of improved construction.
A further object is the provision o1"- means for retaining the cartridges in the cartridge .receiving chambers.
The cartridge receiving chambers, being formed in a iiange on the traction Wheel, revolve ivith said wheel and are liable to be come displaced. In the present invention, l employ a. disk or plate arranged at one side of the Wheel provided nwith lingers or projecting portions adapted to overlie the periphery of the flange and retain the cartridges in posit-ion.
ln the accompanying drawings, have shown one embodiment of the invention. in this showing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation,
Figure 2 is a plan view,
Figure 3 is a vertical section ol: Figure 1. and.
Figure 4 is a similar Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the refe-rence numeral 1 designates a Wheel mounted on a pin or axle 2. An arm 3 is secured to the axle projecting therefrom. The end of this arm is adapted to be received in a handle The traction Wheel is provided with a concentric flange 5 having a plurality of radial openings 6 for the reception of cartridges 7. lt will be apparent that as the Wheel revolves, there is a possibility of the cartridges falling from the openings 6 Which form the cartridge receiving chambers. A cartridge retainer is provided to prevent accidental displacement of the cartridges. As shown,
on line 3- view on line 1 -a ot a, 192i. serial iro. 513,777.
it comprises a disk 8 which is arranged on the axle or pin and which is of substantially the same size as the flange 2. The outer edge or the disk is provided with a plurality ot projections 9 extending over the periphery or the flange and adapted to engage a portion of the cartridge as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The face of the disk is provided with projecting lugs 10 to permit it to be revolved.
The arm 3 is provided with a bracket 11 and a hammer 12 is pivoted on this bracket, as at 13. The hammer moves in an elongated slot 111, formed in a guide plate 15, and is normally retained in loivered position by means of a spring 16. As shown, one end or' the spring is secured to the hammer, as at 17, and the other end is secured to a .iiange 18 Jformed on an arm 19, depending from the arm 3. The hammer is raised against the tension of the spring by means of cams 20 formed on the traction Wheel 1.
The operation of the device is as follows:
When the cartridge receiving chambers are to be filled, the cartridge retainer 8 is revolved by grasping the lugs 10 to bring the projections 9 out of alinement with the openings 6 and permit insertion ot the cartridges. After the cartridge receiving chambers have been lled, the cartridge retainer is returned to its original position with the projections 9 engaging the faces of the cartridge. The Wheel is then revolved by running it over the surface and the hammer is raised by the cams 20. The end of each cam is arranged substantially in radial. alinement with a cartridge receiving chamberA and as the hammer rides off the cam, it is caused to strike the cartridge by the spring 1G, which has been placed under tension when the hammer is raised.
lt Will be apparent that the provision ot a cartridge retainer prevents the cartridges Jfrom becoming displaced When the Wheel is revolved.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing Jfrom the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having described my invention, claim:
1, detonating toy comprising a Wheel having a concentric flange, said ila-nge being www provided Wit-h peripheral openings forming cart-ridge receiving Chambers, a disk disposed adjacent said Wheel, the edge of said disk being provided with projections overlying the periphery of said flange to retain the cartridges in said chambers, a hammer pivotaily mounted adjacent said Wheel, and means for operating said hammer.
2. n. detonating toy comprising a Wheel having a concentric flange, said flange being prm'ided with peripheral openings torllninj;l cartridge receiving' chambers, disk dicposed adjacent` said Wheel, the edge of said disk being provided with projections overlying the periphery of said flange to retain l5 the cartridges in said chambers, the face of said disk being provided Wit-h lugs to permit the disk to be moved to inoperative position, a hammer pivota-llymounted adjacent said Wheel, and means 'for operating said hammer.
In testimony whereof affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
