Tl invention relates to toys and has for an ol ect the provision of a toy in the form of a pistol. which when actuated will produce sparks giving somewhat the appearance of a real pistol and which may be actuated many times in succession without reloading.

lhe casing of the toy is made to semble an automatic revolver. The two halves thereof may be secured together by means of struck-up tongues coacting with struck-up lugs 11. The entire mechanism of the pistol is preferably mounted upon a plate 12, which may be secured to one-half of the casing as by means of tongues 13 integral with the plate projecting through openings inthe casing and clinched as shown in Figure 2.

To guide an actuating bar 1 1 in its movement, a lug 15 is bent out at an angle from the plate 12 and is provided with an opening 16 through which the plate 1% may pass and in addition a wing portion 17 is struck out from the material of the plate 12 at an angle thereto. The action of the toy is due to friction caused upon piece of pyrophoric metal causing a shower of sparks to be projected therefrom. To provide the friction mentioned. a friction wheel 18 having teeth 19, of the nature of file teeth on the edge thereof is pivoted upon a pin which may be mounted in. an opening 20 in'tbe plate 12. To provide movement of the wheel 18, a lever 21 having a wheel portion provided with ratchet teeth 23 upon its periphery, is secured to the wheel 18, the wheel portion 22 being concentric therewith. The end of the lever 21 is shown as notched at 2% and attached to a coiled spring 25 which spring causes sudden reoinbodiinent of the inventhe accompanying draw- 1i? EVJ JERSEY.

I claim 1. A toy pistol comprising a casing, a

friction wheel mounted in said casing, a

spring resisting a movement in one direction of said wheel, a reciprocating plate mounted in said casing, ratchet teeth carried by said wheehpawl teeth carried by said plate, said plate having a smooth portion beyond said pawl teeth, whereby movement of said plate will cause movement of said friction wheel against resistance of said spring until the smooth portion comes in contact with the ratchet teeth when the friction wheel will he suddenly returned to normal, and a pyrophoric element in contact with said wheel.

2. n toy-pistol comprising a casing, a friciIiOn wheel mounted in said casing, a spring resisting a'movement in one direction of said wheel, a reciprocating ilate mounted in said casing, ratchet teeth carried by said wheel, pawl teeth carried by said plate, said plate having: a smooth portion beyond said pawl teeth, whereby movement of said plate will cause movement said friction wheel against resistance of said spring until the smooth portion comes in contact with the ratchet teeth when the friction wheel will he suddenly returned to normal, a trigger rigidly secured to said plate, and a pyrophoric element in contact with said wheel.

3. A toy pistol comprising a casing, a friction wheel mounted. in said casing, a lever projecting from said wheel, a

plate slidably mounted in said casing, means carried by said plate to cause revolution 01 said wheel and sudden release thereof, a spring anchored upon said lever at one end and upon said sliding plate at its other end whereby movement or the plate will separate the anchors of said spring to increase the tension thereof and a pyrophoric element in contact with the said wheel.

l. 21 toy pistol, comprising a casing, a friction wheel mounted in the casing, a pyroplioric element in contact with said wheel, a plate slidably mounted in said casing for actuation oi said wheel from normah'a mem ber pivoted in the casing having a portion adapted to press upon said element, a spring so anchored to said member as to cause such pressure, the opposite end of the spring so anchored to said sliding plate that movement of the wheel from normal will be 'accompanied by an increase-of pressure upon said pyropl'ioric element.

A. toy pistol, comprising a casing, a plate mounted in the casing, a friction wheel provided upon the plate, a lever rigidly secured to said wheel, a stop or limiting the movement oi? said lever in one direction, a reciprocatii'ig plate slidably mounted upon said first named platehaving pawl teeth thereon and a smoothextension beyond said teeth, ratchet teeth carried by said wheel coacting with said pawl teeth, a trigger rigidly secured to said reciprocal plate, a spring anchored to said le erand to said trigger whereby movement to the rear of said r'ecip rocal plate will cause movement from normal of said wheel and sudden release when said pawl. teeth pass beyond said ratchet teeth and whereby the spring will suddenly return the friction wheel to normal and will also return the reciprocal plate to normal when pressure upon the trigger is released.
