This invention has Ator its object a tie brace -lor holflingl the opposing Walls of concrete :tornis in position or in parallelism to each other1 lwhich tie nrace is particuy simple economical in conetinoJion` remlily placed in position and in which. the parte thereof, not left inthe co* e l are read y removed, and nrtl oif wail. which is highly ei'iicient and durable in use. r.l-he invention consists the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set Jorth and claimed.
ln describingthis invention, reference had to the accompanying drawingsin which lilre characters designater cerrespondingi parts in all the views.
fure l is a vertical sectional view et t "s brace, the contiguous part or Walls oif the forni being shown.
l'ligure 2 is a plan view or parte seen in lTi ligures 3 and 4 are respectively an end View and an enlarged sectional view of one the blocks or sleeves of this brace 're 5 is a perspective view of the tightening' Wedge. i
lhis tie brace comprises generally, opposieg` blocl-s or sleeves designed to lie against the inner opposing faces ofthe walls oi the forms, the bloclrsbeing formed with internal cavities having; lizey slots in their opposing ends, a tie rod having angular or laterally turned ends which are kmovable through the lrey slots and int-o interlockinigv engagement with the end walls of the cavities of the bloclcby relative endivise and turning movements of the tie rod andthe blocks, and means extending through the walls of the forni for pulling the blocks outwardly against the inner i'aces of the forni. Preferably, this means includes pnll rods Which interlock With the blocks in a manner similar to that in which the `tie rods interlock with the blocks. V
l designates the Vblocks which are here shown as conical in forni `with their larger ends or bases disposed outwardly in order *i lie against the inner opposing faces 2 oi? the forms each block being provided with an internal cavity 4 having end Walls which are formed with openings for the tie rod and the tension rods 8 As here shown, preferably, the openings in :h if the walls 5, G is in the' form of, j 'for cinivenience is called a keyhole t 9 or l0, that is. a slot extending subally radially oi the end `Wall of the liiocr; and in order permit a hook to hi fA zerted therethrough and turned to interlock with the end Wall, the tie rod 7 is prfgirided with angular or laterally turned hook v'g "l for enteriifig `the slots 9 upon relatfc cnf the blocks l and to interlock With the opposing end Walls of the blocks upon a relative turning n'iovenient of the rod to the blocks. The rods@ are provided with similar hoolrs l A interlock vii th the end Walls olf the cavity on the or sides 'of the block by siinilar inoreinents. Each block l is preferably provided with a partition as an internal an` nnlar flange l intermediate the ends thereof i'or spacing the ends oli the rods i', 8.
The rods 8 are drawn endvvise by a `particnlarly simple and cheaply constructed Wedge i3 which seen in Fig. il: is U- shaped in cross section, the Wedge being,r arranged astride the bill lll of the hook at the outer end of eachfrod 8, the bill le or the hook being substantially parallel to the major part of the rod 8.
ililhen rthe wedge is arranged astride the bill lll, the intermediate orback 1.5 thereoiif ir aojalnst the .'frainino' of the iorin l i l5 members. i i
@Wing `to the arrangement by Which the interioclinp,1 of the tie rods and `tension or pull on rods With 'the blocks or inserts 4 is se movement of the rod 7 and 2 at their inner ends arranged to sov iio
eifected, this brace is-readily placed in position when the concrete is set the Wedges, pull rodsand blocks are readily removed. Furthermore. owing to this construction7 and to the Wedge construction the Whole device consists of but few parts which are particularly economical in constriiction.
1n use, after the concrete Wall is hardened the tension rods 8 can be readily removed upon knocking outot the Wedges 18 and removing the rods 8 by a partial turning and endvise movement thereof. rllherea'iter, the walls of the 'form are removed, the bloclrs or inserts l() displaced and the holes lett therein filled up with cement.
