Be it known that IQFREDERIOK Konriio, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Pittsburgh,in the county of Al legheny and State of Pennsylvania, have i invented certain newfand useful ln' provements 1n CrusherApparatus .TEOILCOH1O- tive Stoker's, of which the following is a My invention relates to coal crushing apg paratus for locomotivef-stokers, and is in the nature of an improvement inthe device described and shown in LettersPatent ofthe Unitedfitates No.fi1,258,l-20, grantec l to me lilarchr'th, 1918. u It has for one otits p'riQ mar-y objects to improve the construction and increase the, ciiiciency andutility of devices ofthisicharacterfl Another object i of the inventionis to provide aconstrucw tion of crusher ,wherein the single'tree is jpivotally rnounted and may he quickly and easily "removed for replacement or repair upon the detachinent of but a single ncininvention normally userves tomaintain the single-tree in its p1v0ted p0s1t10n,
l My invention also contemplates certain novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts ofltheiinproved device; whereby certain important advantages are attained, as will hemore fully described l1ereinafter, and pointed out in the claimed i v Thesatogether with such other objects as are f incidentj to my invention, I attain hyj meansof a construction illustrated in pr e 1 111111 the accompanying draw i t-s, wh e t it I Figureflt represents nal section through the front portion Iofa locomotivetender such as is used with aua toniatic stoker mechanism totloconiotives;
and showing my invention as applied there to just below] the fuel discharge passage and above the hopper; p
t Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional view ofthe crusher shown in Figured, but
emiwh em central longitudimavbe briefly descrihed as follows. The
reference character A denotes a tuel re tenderBl, the base of which is provided with a discharge outlet 5.- Disposed belowthis outlet is a crusher device G emhodyingwa casing 6 and a crusher 13 which is adapted tobereciproc'ated in the casingtransversely of the outlet 5 by Ineansof the links? and driving rod 8 usually carried on the loconioceptacle in the front end of the locomotive tive. The reference numeral9 designates a forward passage in thecrusher casingigfi into Which the fuel frornthe receptacle A falls by gravity, froinjwhich it passes through a discharge opening 10 basally formed inthe casin then through the hopper 11, and
fuel is eventually discharged; in the well known manner, from the chute 12 at the front end thereof into thestokermechanism vcustomarilycarried by the locomotive.
In carrying; out my inventioml provid Itrom'thence into a transferjchute 12 where the fuel is worked forward by the reciprocation cf the pivoted vanesl Thecrushed the side walls 14: ofthe crusher casing 6 v with an upper marginal flange 15 substantiallycodncident with and immediatelyvbelow the marginal boundary of the outlet 5, l
endflalso with hearing boxes 14 affording hearingsfor the shafts 17 which carry'the rollers 18upon which the crusher 13 recip rocates under the influence ofthe links'i', During, its reciprocation, I the crusher is maintainedin its "proper avenue of travel bvmeans of'the roller flanges 3.8 andthe marginal; flange 15 above'it.
The crusherfistransversely formed with i a central opening or slot19 intermediate its toPwall 20 jand its base anthem this slot ispivotally'mounted'a single-tree22 whose end-portions 22* extend in opposed directions through elongated slots 23 provided in the side Walls 14 of the casing, the base 21 having an opening 24 leading downwardly and outwardly from the slotted opening 19, The pivotal axis of the single tree 22 is embodied in the form of an agitator pin 25 i'vliose shank 26 passes thrini'gh 7 are terminally connected:
One important advantage of my invention resides in the ease with which the singletreemay he removed from the crusherfor the purpose of replacement or repair, since all'that is' required in this connection is to uncouple the a itato'r andv siiigle-t'ree pin 25 and the'lifiks% endthen swing the single tree in a rearward' directien toward the Wall 27 of the tender (Figure and Withdraw it ("jut of the left hand slots '19 and 23;
Theshslots, it ill be observed, are elongated sufficiently to permit of this swing withdrawingmovement: i
In order to control and regulate the crusher discharge opening 1-0 in respect to lts discharging capacity, a coal cut-off slide plate' memher28 is provided to marginally rest up-nthe spaced supports 29 which arelseehred to the lower facespf the Walls 1'4 aild honstitnte inwardly directed extensions thereof. VVhile' the upper face of this-slide cut-olfis substantially coincident with; the lower face of the 'crusher base 21-, tl'ie'reds" no 'c'ont ah't hetvv'een them, as the crusher rides'free-ly' on the antifriction rollers18. Above these'latter are provided protecting bosses 30 for the roller hearii'igs.
shovv'n in the drawing,- the slide off is in itseiitrelneirear position with ref erence to the opening 10-, vvhose area or size of outlet it is designed to regulate as oc casion may require, and toetf ect this regulation the -slide is adapted for movement transversely of this said opening toward or away from the front Wall 31 of the crusher casings Themeans provided in this connest-in contemplate a pair of coupling rods Whose rear end portions are terminally connected with the arms of arross-piece 34 Which is=holted t-o the underfa'ce of the front portion of the cutoff slide 28. and
'also' i'iicludes the rack 35; pinion 3t}- and handivheelfi'i manipulationof which, as will' he apparent, causes the regulating movement of the slide through the interposition of thehell-crank "lever 38 whose ends are pivetally connected to the ends of the rack'and the rods- It Will he noted that I thecross-piece' ioffset at 34% so as to position its arms 33 in advance of the rollers and bearings so as to clear the latter rea ers ,to materially eti'ect its elliciency and utility.
It will he understood that the edge of: this opening 2 1 clears the slide when the crusher moves to its extreme retracted position from the intermediate position in the outlet 5 which-itis shown as occupying in the drawings. The device has easy movement, is simple and eliicient, readily applied, and, as already indicated, the single-tree may he very quickly removed and replaced.
