T all to 710m it may concern- Be it known that I, MARY M. BUCKLER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Springfield, in the county of 5 Hampden and State of Massachusetts, United States of America, have invented new and useful Improvements in Eyes for Dolls, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in toy efiigies but is directed more particularly to the representation of the eyes thereof.

An obj ect of the invention is the provision of a simple and inexpensive representation of an eye, that may be easily and quickly attached to the face of the toy, thereby eliminating the necessity of the skilled labor usually required in painting or embroidering eyes upon the faces of toys.

Another object of the invention is to provide an eye that comprises separate elements, that are adapted to be attached to the face of the doll in various relations to produce various facial expressions.

To this end, the invention consists in the .15 novel combination of elements hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claims.

While the invention is here illustrated in connection with certain toys, it is obvious that it is equally applicable to any other figures or eiiigies. The invention will be readily understood by reference to the ac companying drawings in which:

In the drawings I-I represents the head of a toy efligy which, for the purposes of description is considered to be of fabric which covers a stuffing or other suitable soft substance in the shape of a head.

A ring member of torus form 1 for representing the eye ball of an eye is provided and is attached to the face of the toy by stitching in the usual and well known manner. The said ring 1 is preferably circular in cross-section, the diameter of which cross section is substantially less than the diameter of the ring member. various cross-sections may be employed to produce the desired results.

A head member 3 for representing the pupil of an eye is provided and has near its lower side, the usual thread opening through which a stitch may be passed to attach the said bead to the face f. The head member 3 may be placed in various relative positions with respect to the ring member 1, whereby various expressions of the eye may be obtained and its diameter is considerably smaller than the inside diameter of the ring member 1. The bead member is here shown as being semi-spherical and is in thickness preferably equal to the cross-sectional diameter of the ring 1, but other head members of various shapes and sizes may be employed as may be desired. The color of the face of the effigy is preferably such that it contrasts with the color of the ring member and bead and the ring member and head are constructed of substantially rigid material.

V Obviously, the ring and bead members may be attached to various toys or efiigies in various relations to produce an unlimited variety of expressions, and while it is pre ferred to employ a circular ring like memher having a circular cross-section, and a semi-spherical bead member, it will be understood that members of other shapes and dimensions may be employed without departing from the scope of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. The head of a toy efiigy having attached to the face thereof a ring of torus form and a bead member within said ring to represent an eye of said face.

2. The head of a toy etfigy, having attached to the face thereof. a ring member of comparatively small crosssectional di ameter and a bead member within said ring to represent an eye of said face.

3. The head of a toy efiigy having attached to the face thereof, a ring member and a bead member within said ring member to represent an eye of said face, the said head being substantially equal in height to the cross-sectional diameter of said ring.
