Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
CHARLES A. DOUGLAS, OF FRANKLIN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MvlLK-COOLERS.
Speecation formin g part of Letters Patent No. 144,448, dated November 11, 1873; application filed october 1e, 1813.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. DOUGLAS, of Franklin, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Milk-Cooler, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in protecting the metal water-pan of a milk-cooler by a paper, felt, or other non-conducting cover or envelope for the bottom and sides, to prevent the cold water running through it for cooling the milk-pan from taking up the heat of the atmosphere from the outside, the said paper or other nonconducting cover being held up to it by any suitable frame or support.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of a milk-cooler, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section, showing the application of my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the water-pau; B, the milk-pan, and C the non-conducting envelope of the bottom and sides of the water-pan, which I apply in the manner shown in the drawing, or in any approved Way, to prevent the temperature of the water from being raised by the heat of the atmosphere being4 conducted to it by the metal, as when the latter is not protected'as I propose. D is the frame or table Vfor supporting the pan. It is constructed so as to hold the paper or any other non-conducting cover against the water-pan, and the latter is provided with a strong wood ilange, E, which projects down from the top metal ange F, and rests on the beams G, and confines the upper edge of the cover C against the sides of the water-pan between it and the said sides, so as to exclude the air from the pan.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The water-pan of a milk-cooler protected from the heat of the atmosphere by a non-conducting cover or envelope, C, of paper, felt, or other equivalent substance, substantially as specied.
2. The combination of the wood flange E, metal ilange F, pan A, beams G, and the nonconducting cover C, substantially as specified.
CHARLES A. DOUGLAS.
