ANTNOS J7. IVEURZCOS, @F GREENVLLE, TEXAS.
lCE SHAVER.
Application filed February 26, 1920.
To alt w /wm t may concer/it Be it known that I, AN'roNIos J. MURZICos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenville, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful improvements in an Ice Shaver, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in an ice shaver and has for its principal object t-he construction of a device adapted to shave ice for use in drug stores or like places.
Another object of the invention consists in the provision of a slidable carriage for the ice said carriage adapted to be moved longitudinally of a frame which carries the cutters for shaving the ice.
A further object of the invention consists in the construction of a frame in such a manner as to discharge the shaved ice into a bucket or other suitable receptacle.
A still further obj ect of the invention consists in means for connecting the slidable ice carriage to the frame and means for disconnecting the ice carriage so that it may be carried from place to place.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following specification and drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is an end view of one end of the machine.
Figure 3 is an end view of the opposite end of the machine.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 4 4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Figure 4 looking in the direction of the arrows and,
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional detail showing the manner of mounting the follower in the slidable carriage.
ln carrying out my invention l provide a supporting frame indicated generally at A and a slidable ice carriage shown generally at B. The frame A consists of a single supporting leg 1.at one end and two supporting legs 2 at the opposite end. Side rails 3 connect the legs at the upper end and each side rail has a cleat 4 secured to the outer face thereof for a purpose to be later described. A top plate 5 is secured to the tops of the legs and is provided with transversely extending slots -lng `opening 11 therein for Serial No. 361,371.
(3 as more particularly illustrated in Figure l of the drawings. The top plate 5 is preferably covered with metal as indicated at 7. A. hopper 8 is secured beneath the plate 5 and under the transversely extending openings 6. Pointed rods 9 extend through the top plate 5 Aas more particularly illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 ofthe drawings and also extend over the transversely extending openings 6. These pointed rods are arranged in rows as indicated in Figure 5.
rlhe slidable ice carriage B comprises the side plates 10 having the vertically extenda purpose to be later described. End plates 12 connect the ends of the side plates 10 and go forward with the side plates to make up a receptacle for receiving the ice to be shaved. A follower 13 is mounted in the vertically extending openings or slots 11 and is provided on the underface with a plurality of prongs 14. Rollers 15 are carried on the lower edge of the slidable ice carriage B and operate upon the upper edge of the cleat 4. A cleat 16 is secured to the outer face of each side plate 10 and has a second cleat 17 hingedly connected thereto as indicated at 18. A plate 19 is secured to the lower edge of the plate 17 and is adapted to extend beneath the lower edge of the cleat 4 when the carriage is in position. A turn button 2O is connected to the cleat 16 and adapted to extend over the cleat 1'? as more particularly shown in Figure 1 of the drawings.
Cleats 21 are secured to the inner face of the legs 1 and 2 and carry a pan or tray 22 provided with a plurality of openings 23.
Froml the above detailed description it is thought that the operation and advantages of my ice shaver will be clearly understood. The carriage B is secured upon the frame A by having the plate 19 extend beneath the cleat 4. The rollers 15 operate on top of the cleats 4 so that the carriage may be slid backwards and forwards. The ice to be shaved is placed in the carriage with the follower 12 over.1 the top thereof and the prongs 14 engaging in the ice. The ends of the follower inay then be grasped and the carriage may be moved over the top of the frame. This will bring the lower face of the ice in contact with the sharpened ends of the rods 9 and the ice will therefore be shaved and passed through the transversely extending opening 6. The shaved ice will drop into the hopper 8 and be discharged into a bucket or other slil'f.
