Be it known that I, ZYGMUNT J ARUGA, a citizen of Poland, residing at Amsterdam, in the countyof Jefferson and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cheese Presses, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of this invention is the production of a cheese press formed of 1.0 a comparatively simple structure and wherein the same may be easily operated by even an inexperienced person.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an article of this character which is composed of a very limited number of parts and wherein the same may be easily knocked down or taken apart and broken members of the press may be readily renewed without discarding the entire apparatus.
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts herein after more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Figure l is a fragmentary cross sectional view of a portion of the device, and
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of the structure shown in Fig. 4.
Referring to the several views and more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 there is shown a supporting base board 1 for the body of curd or casein usually contained in a bag of thin material, for instance cheese cloth or the like designated by the numeral 2. This base board 1 is of substantially rectangular shape and has slightly spaced from its for ward and rear ends transverse grooves or mortises 3 for receiving transversely disposed bracing blocks 4. Suitably secured within the opposite ends of these brace 5 blocks are depending supporting legs of desired configuration 5, and it is to be noted that the forward legs are of a slightly lesser length than the rear legs so as to normally support the assembled apparatus upon an inclined position.
The upper surface of the base board 1 is provided with a groove or channel 6 slightly spaced inwardly of its edges and has its outlet ends at the forward portion of the board communicating with a metallic trough 7 sup ported upon this end of the board for conveying the material to a receptacle 8 supported therebeneath.
Reduced ends 9 of vertically disposed guide bars 10 are adapted to pass through alined perforations in the base board 1 and the transverse reinforcing bars 1 to be there retained by wedging pins 11 received within slots 12 of these reduced ends 9 of the guides 10. These guide bars 10 are supported substantially centrally of the cross braces at and are adapted to have slida-bly mounted thereon the press board 12 which is of substantially the same configuration as the base 1, but of slightly greater dimensions. This press board is likewise provided with transverse grooves or mortises 13 for receiving upper reinforcing cross bars 14 slightly spaced inwardly of its front and rear end portions. The press board 12 and reinforcing bars 1 1 are provided with alined elongated slots 15 to permit free movement of the board upon the vertical guide bars or rods 10.
Pivotally secured to the upper edge of the forward guide rod 10 is a swinging locking lever 16 channeled upon its under face at 17, which channel portion is adapted to engage with the upper end of the rear guide bar 10 and has an opening 18 therein for receiving the upper headed end 19 of a spring locking bar 20 suitably secured within said vertical guide rod.
The gui. le rods 10 are provided with elongated slots 21 for a portion of their length, which slots are adapted to receive a plural- 10o ity of wedge blocks 22 for forcing the press board 12 downwardly upon the curd or casein container 2 when the same are positioned within the slots of the guide rods.
The press board 12 has a depending mctallic skirt portion 23 permanently secured and depending from its rear and side edges, which skirt portion is adapted to extend beneath the bottom edges of the base board 1 and has an integrally formed gutter pm tion 241- inwardly thereof so as to effectively catch and convey to the tor-ward portion of the base boardl the fluid material squeezed from the bag 2 of curd or casein which would otherwise overflow from the channel 6 in the base board and consequently fail to pass to the forward end of this board and fiow into the container 8. This skirt portion 23 also effectively prevents any of the curd or casein from projecting outwardly of the assembled press.
From the above description it will be readily noted that I have provided an extremely simplified form of cheese press and one wherein the material may be readily pressed from its container bag and be readily conveyed to a receptacle at the forward portion thereof.
The operation and advantges of my device will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art and I wish it distinctly understood that minor changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as claimed.
W hat is claimed as new is 1. In a cheese press of the type described, a curd or casein mass supporting base, vertical guide rods carried by said base, a press board supported above said mass supporting board and having alined openings therein for slidably positioning said press board upon the guide rods, andmeans associated with said guide rods and the press board for exerting pressure upon'the said board and consequently pressing said mass from between the base supporting memberand the press board, said means comprising wedge members inserted within elongated slots of the guide rods and contacting with transverse reinforcing bars carried by the upper face of said press board.
2. In a cheese press of the type described, a base board and a press board adapted to receive therebetween a mass of curd or case in, means for forcing said press board down wardly into engagement with said mass, and means carried by the press board and depending therefrom, forpreventing the passage of any of the material from the mass from passing beyond the outer edges of the said press board and base supporting member.
3. In a cheese press of the type described, a base board and a press board adapted to receive therebetween a mass of curd or casein, means for forcing said press board (lOWIlwardly into engagement with said mass, and means carried by the press board and depending therefrom, for preventing the passage of any of the material from the mass from passing beyond the outer edges of the said press board and base supporting member, said means comprising a metallic skirt portion depending from the side and rear edges of the press board and extending beneath similar edges of the said base board.
4. In a cheese press of the type'described, a base board and a press board adapted to receive therebetween a mass of curd or casein, means for forcing said press board downwardly into engagement with said mass, means carried by the press board and de pending therefrom, for preventing the passage of any of the material from the mass from passing beyond the outer edges of the said press'board and base supporting member, said means comprising a metallic skirt portion depending from the side and rear edges of the press board and extending beneath similar edges of the said base board, and an inturned channelway upon the lower edge of said skirt portion for gathering any material that passes beyond the edges of said mass supporting board and for conveying the same to the forward end of said board whereby the matter may readily flow into a container positioned beneath the forward ends of said channelway.
5. In a cheese press of the type described, a lower base board and an upper press board adapted to receive therebetween a mass of curd or casein, guide rods positioned vertically upon opposite ends of the said base board and adapted to extend through slots within the press board for allowing free vertical movement of the said press board, a
locking lever between the upper ends of said guide rod and being pivoted to the upper edge of one of said guide rods and adapted to detachably connect with the upper end of the opposite guide rod, and means for forcing said press board downwardly into engagement with the said body of curd or caseln.
