Patented Feb. 6, i923@ BOOT.
Application filed September 9, 1921. Serial No. 499,426.
To all iti/0m 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, PEARL Y. SMILEY, of the city of Kitchener, Province of Quebec., Dominion of Canada. a subject of the King of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots; and l do hereby declare that the following,v is a full, clearI` and exact description thereof.
My invention relates particularly to boots for use by lumberrnen, lirenien and other persons whose occupation exposes them to rain and fallen snow and has for its object to provide a boot which possesses warmth and waterproof qualities and which adapted to .fit snugly the leg of the wearer between the calf and the knee and have the trousers of the wearer overlap its top.
To this end the invention may be said to consist of a rubber knee boot. the foot and ankle portions ot' which are olI the usual comparatively stili construction and the upper portion to the knee of rubberized stock-- ingette and provi-ded with a garter to cause this pliable portion to clasp the leg' just below the knee.
For full comprehension, however, of niv invention reference inust be had to the ac` coinpanyin` drawings in which sin'iilar relerence characters indicate the saine parts and wherein:
Figure l is ay side elevation of a boot manufactured according` to my invention;
Figure is a similar View of the oppo.. site side of the boot;
Figure 3 is a view similar partly in section; and
Figure 4t illustrates a boot as worn.
The foot and ankle portions of my iniproved boot are indicated at f/i and e and the top stockingette portion at d. This latH ter portion is adapted to be drawn togeth r to Clasp the wearers leg^ between the mit and the knee by a garter e secured at one end by a fastener f to the stookinefette por-- tion near the top edge thereof while its opposite end is adapted to engage a. buckle lf/ fastened to the stoekingette portion in line with the strap.
The stockingette portion consists of wool or other warm lining of suitable material extending from the sole to the top. The lower leg portion, ankle and foot are rein= foroed and stilened in the usual manner While the top or stockngette portion is made to Figure l lieXible and waterproof by a heavy coating' of rubber without stiifening.
As shown in .Figure 5 the boot owing 'to the pliability of its top readily conforms to the leg of the wearer with a snug lit when the garter is tightened.
This construction and arrangement of parts provides a rubber boot the pliable top of which will not slip down when the wearer is moving` about nor will the garter inten fere with blood circulation or the wearerls comfort as the garter may be left relatively loose and i-,fet be incapable of downward displacement over the calf of the ler'.
lllhat l elaini is as follows:
l. A rubber or rubber-oid knee boot hav ingr comparatively stift' pliable foot and an` kle portions the latter extending; to a point substantially half way between the ankle and the knee and a pliable top portion and means whereby said pliable portion is unused to snusly lit the legl of the wearer be tween the calf and the knee all. of said portions beingY waterproof.
2. rfi rubber or rubberoid knee boot having comparatively stiif foot and ankle portions the latter extending to a point subA stantially half way between the ankle and the knee and a` pliable top portion and, a garter .for causii'igr the latter portion to clasp the leg of the wearer between the ralf and the knee1 all of said portions being" waterproof.
l. A rubber or rubberoid knee hoot ing' comparatively stiff foot and ankle portions the latter extending to a point substantially half way between the ankle and the knee and a pl'able stockinnette top por tion extending to the knee and adapted to be drawn in to clasp the legi` of the wearer between the ealf and the knee and whereby the to clasp the ineens sisting' of a strap secured to the s ri'ette portion. and a buckle also seonred to i portion and adapted to be one' wed lj, e strap7 all of said portions being' waterproof.
ln testimony whereof l have signed my naine to this specification in the Y'presenee of two witnesses.
