Be it known that I, LUOILLE Burn. Bo- NANNO, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Molding the Facial Muscles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention relates'to apparatus for molding the facial muscles, and more particularly to devices of this character adapted to facilitate the external application of revivifying ingredients.

It has been determined that proper treatment of certain facial muscles is'a distinct aid in the restoration of the youthful lines of the face, as the sagging of different portions of the face may be substantially, if not completely, eliminated by restoring the proper firmness to the facial muscles. This treatment of the facial muscles must be properly directed, and of such character that it has the desired beneficial efi'ect without injury or irritation to the skin. It has been found in this connection that the most efficacious form of treatment consists in the application of a nourishing cream, followed by the use of an astringent. The cream may be applied to the face with the fingers, butv the astringent should be applied on wet absorbent cotton, making it practically impossible to secure a proper application to the facial muscles with the cotton alone.

The present invention constitutes a simple and eficient form of apparatus used in connection with this treatment of the facial muscles, and enables the proper treatmentto be given the muscles without the necessity of employing a high degree of skill. To this end the'invention consists primarily in a molding cup designed to fit the contour of the face, more particularly that portion of the face extending from thechin upwardly along the cheek, and having a handle extending therefrom in such a position that it may be conveniently applied to the face. The cup is curved throughout both dimensions. and is higher at one end than at the other, the handle being located in a position nearer the low end. Located in the interior of the cup is a holding band of celluloid or similar material, which'is pivotally coni i the cup at oppo- I nected with the inside of site ends. This band furnishes a convenient means for holding a pad of absorbent cotton within the cup, the general. outline" of the pad conforming to the contour of that portion of the face to which it is to be applied.

The particular form of the molder shown in the illustrated embodiment of the invention, comprises a molding cup 10 of celluloid, or similar material, curving upwardly toward its opposite ends, and having a han-' d e 12 extending therefrom, by which the molder is operated. As shown more par-f ticularly in Figs. 1 and 2, the molding cup is considerably longer and higher at one end than at the opposite end, in order to facilitate the application of the cup, as shown in Fig. 1, and cause the cup to fit the general contour of the face, and fully cover the mus cles from the chin upwardly along the cheek. In actual practice, the device is conveniently molded of celluloid or some similar material which will notreadily break in use. The interior of the molding cup is provided with a band 14 having the same general curva ture as the longitudinal curvature of the cup and pivotally. connected at opposite ends to the oup through fasteners 20 of noncorrosive material. inserted between the ends of the band and the walls of the cup are wedge shaped blocks 21' which facilitate the swinging of the band into a position where the absorbent cotton may be wound thereabout. When in use the molding cup is preferably filled, as indicated in sorbent cotton, when saturated with a suitable astringent, may be applied externally to the face, and by properly locating it an even pressure upon the muscles may be insured. The regular and continued use of such an apparatus promotes the circulation, makes the "facial muscles firm, and freshens and tightens the skin While it is preferred to employ the specific construction and arrangement of parts shown and described, it will be understood that this construction and arrangement is not essential exceptso far as specified in the claims, and may be changed or modified Without departing tron'i the broader features of the invention.

The invention having been described, what is claimed is:

1. An apparatus of the character de scribed, comprising a molding cup curving both longitudinally and transversely, and adapted to conform to the general contour of the face, a handle extending from the bottom of the molding cup, and means con nected to the interior of the molding cup and adapted to hold in place a pad of absorbent cotton.

2. Bin apparatus of the character described, comprising a relatively long and narrow curved molding cup, having a ban dle formed integrally therewith, the cup and handle being made of celluloid, a band pivotally connected to the interior of the cup at opposite ends, and a pad of absorbent cotton retained in the cup by the band, having its upper surface curved in conformity with the edges of the cup, and located above the band.

An apparatus of the character described, comprising a curved molding cup having a curved upper edge substantially higher at one end of the cup than at the opposite end of the cup, a curved holding band positioned adjacent the bottom of the cup, a pad of absorbent cotton held in the cup by the band, and having an upper concave surface substantially flush with the upper edge oi the cup, the surface of the cotton being located above the band.
