. CORD HOLDER AND CUTTER.
Application filed May 11, 1921. Serial no. 468,680.
To all whom it-may concern.
Be it knownthat l, li'iAnriN E. GnnoULn,
a citizen o l the United States, and a resident of Rochester; in the county oi Monroe and 5 State of New York, have invented certain new andusei'ul Improvements in Cord Holders and Cutters, of which the following is a specification. I
This inventionrelates to improvements in supports for balls of twine and the like.
An important object is to provide a twine carrier having novel means whereby the same may be conveniently applied to ones clothing so as to be within convenient reach and so that the user will know exactly where to look for the twine when it is desired to wrap a bundle or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a twine carrier having simple means for folding the r'ree end of thetwine and for severing the twine either before or after the bundle is tied.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder or carrier for a ball of twine which is simple, neat in appearance and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the vfollowing description.
i In the accompanying drawing forming a 'part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same I V Figure 1 is a perspective of the device in use.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same, the same being shown supporting a cord or twine receptacle.
Figure is a, fragmentary perspective view illustrating a sllghtly modified form ot the invention;
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 generally designates the improved carrier or sup port which is formed from a single length of spring metal having one end portion bent upon itself to defineian elongated attaching strip 6 which may be secured to ones person in any desired manner. The terminal portions of the strip Sis extended inwardly to contact with the body portion of thedevice as indicated at 7 so as to confine a belt or the like securely, though detachably. within the elongated loop formed by the clip and the adjacent portion of the'length of spring metal. As illustrated in Fig. 2, the terminal portion 7 is extended outwardly away from the body oi. thedevice to form a gradually restricted entrance opening fora portion'of the users garment. The length of spring metal from which the device is" formed is bent 'upon itself asindicated at 10 to define an elongated loop 11 which receives a link 12 having a bill13 connected to a cord 'receps tacle 14. The upper portion-of the loop-11 is reduced by offsetting the adjacent portions of the length of spring metal as indicated at 16. By extending one side of the loop 11 to contact with the body of the length of metal,
the upper end of the loop is detachably closed. link 12 upwardlythe same may be removed from the loop 11.
The terminal portion of the length of metal adjacent the loop 11 is extended later- However, by moving the loop or ally to form an arm 18 which forms aholding means for the terminal portion of the cord or twine 20. By connecting the cord or twine to the laterally projecting arm 18 in the manner herewith illustrated, the operator knows exactly where to look for the cord and may therefore readilyand conveniently grab the cord to readily and conveniently wrap a bundle which for the purpose of ill ustration is deignated by the numeral 25.
The tree terminal portion of the armlS extended downwardly and is decreased in I thickness so as to form a gradually reduced portion 24.
In the use of the invention the attaching clip may be readily and conveniently connected to ones person so as to support the ball of twine in the desired position. When it is desired to wrap a bundle or the like the 28 in the cover of the receptacle 1e and the bundle conveniently wrapped. The cord may he severed either before ,orafter the tying operation by giving the same a quick cord maybe pulled up through the opening jerlcon the laterallyprojecting arm. The I pointed terminal portion 24. may also be employed in the severing, operation since the same forms what mightbe termed a notch in which the cord is received when it is desired to sever the same. Also the downd e 31 with W1 i1 he cord is be engaged. The shoulders 32 are forniied at the ends of the bevel and form a means for holding, He cord in engagement with the cutting edge. This torn: of the in vention is also provided with the downwardly directed terminal portion 34.
The improved cord carrier may be attached to ones person, or to the pocket or in fact to any desired part of the clothing.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is 1.. A cord holder and cutter formed from a single length ofmetal formed with spaced portions defining a loop and a laterally projecting arm'about Which the cord may be .WOHIlCl, one longitudinal edge of the arm being provided with a cutting-edge and the terminal portion ofsaid arm being extended angularly, one end portion of said length of metal being bent upon itself to provide an attaching loop, whereby the holderand a carrier maybe secured to ones person.
2. A cord holder and eutter formed from a single length of metal. "formed With spaced portions defining a loop and a laterally p1'o jecting arm about Which the cord may be Wound, one longitudinal edge of the arm being provided with a cutting edge and the terminal portion of said arm being extended angular-1y, one end portion of said length of metal being lent upon itself to provide an attaching-loop, whereby the holder and a carrier may be secured to ones person, and means connected to said first named loop for supporting a carrier.
