Be it known that I, EMILIO MAGALDI, a subject of the King of Italy, and resident of Naples, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
'lhepresint invention relates to the manufacture of shoes, and more particularly to that part of the shoe which is the sole.
The purpose of the invention is to attain a good ventilation ofthe lower part of the shoe to condense the vapors given off by the foot, to preserve the parts constituting the bottom of the shoe and to make its outside and inside impermeable.
The invention is illustrated in the 3.000111 panying drawings in which:

Referring to the drawing the sole A is composed of one or more layers of fabric B preferably impermeable linen applied on a 40 seinirigid core C, made of resilient wood, the fabric being rounded about and along the edges of the fore part of the sole to form chambers D. In each chamber is arranged a coiled spring E, and its purpose is to constitute a passage for the circulation of the air necessary for the peripheric ventilation of the shoe. The core G is covered by one or more layers of fabric B and secured by means of the stitches F which serves also 5 to seam the leather of the shoe to the sole.
l-l indicates a flat spring secured to the solo at 1. 2. 3 and a by means of the U-shaped members I and L shown in Figure 9, the ends of which are threaded to receive nuts.
Thefree end of the spring H passes under theyoinmg part or bridge of the member M which with member N serve to secure thd heel to the shoe.
The purpose of the spring H is to preserve the shape and elasticity of the sole. lhe screws furthermore serve to attach to the shoe the protecting devices for instance rubber pads or the like. a
The outer sole shownin Figure 5 is composed of layers of impermeablefabric provided with a strip of leather sewed to the layers and to the shoe.
The pad 0 is preferably made of wool or the likematerial enclosed within an envelope of fabric. The shape and'prolile' of the pad is such that it does not entirely fill the space between springs E, but leaves a certain space necessary for the free movement of the toes.
- The movements of the foot causes springs E to be compressed so that the springs in returning to their original shape produce a circulation of air and thereby ventilate the shoe.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed "what I claim is:
1. A shoe having a sole formed of. a. pad 0 of soft material enclosed in a covering of fabric, a semirigid sole C, having on its edges av coiled spring and an insole A, composed of several layers of impermeable fabric on which layers a flat spring is screwed to keep the shape of the shoe, the insole as well as the semirigid sole and the coiled springs being enveloped in a covering, composed of several layers of fabric and formlng a peripheric chamber for the ventilation of the shoe whose outsole is formed of several layers of impermeable fabric.
2. A shoe having a sole formed of a wooden member, coiled springs at, the forward part of the side edges, a fiat spring secured to the instep portion of the sole, and a covering of fabric enclosing the sole and springs.
