SNAPFASTENER DEVICE.
Application led December 5, 19521.
construction, combination and operative as-4 sociation of elements set forth in the following description and claims.
ln the drawing Figure l is a plan view of the female orsoclret member of a snap fastener, constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view looking toward the under face of the improvement.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure lis a modified fragmentary plan view of the construct-ion disclosed in Figure 2, but illustrating a modified means for sustaining the spring member on the fastener.
Figures 5, 6 and 7 are fragmentary plan views with parts broken away and parts in section, illustrating modified forms of spring rings and means for sustaining the rings on the fastener.
disclosed by the drawings the improvement includes a body plate 1 and a rim 2. 'llhe rim is triangular in plan and is preferably straight or flat. rlhe rim 2, at the angle corners thereof is notched, as at rlhc body plate is hexagonal in plan, all of the edges thereof being preferably straightor 'l he edges of the body plate being in contacting engagement with the rim are secured thereto in any desired or preferred manner, while the spaces t between the disconnected edges of the body plate and the angle corners of the rim. provide thread pockets, the threads which attach the eyelet to the garment being also received in the depressed portions 3 of the rim.
sel-iai no. 520,115.
The body plate is centrally formed with a round opening 5, the said plate being provided with portions which project into the opening, and the said plate being slitted in a line with the edges of these portions. These portions are indicated by the numeral t3, and the same are bent or otherwise rounded upon themselves to provide cross sectionally rounded pockets 7 for a split ring 8. its the mouths of the pockets 7 are arranged to communicate with the openings in the plate, it will be apparent that the split ring will be partly projected into the said opening, and therefore the same may readily engage with the headed male member of the garment fastener which is designed to pass through the opening 5 in the female member herein described. rlhe split ring 8 is preferably elliptical in plan, while 'he headed male member (not shown) may be either round or triangular in plan.
In Figures Ll, 5. G and 7 of the drawings, the construction is substantially similar to that above described, except that in Figures 5, 6 and i", the split ring received in the pockets in the body plate is so made that when contacted it will project into the opening a greater distance than will the split ring 8 in Figure 4.
ln Figures il, 2, 3 and lf of the drawings, the pockets are formed at the central opening thereof by substantially itl-shaped projections.
lt is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and operation of the improvement.
Having described the invention, l claim 1. .lln a garment fastener, a socket niembei' comprising a body having a central opening therethrough, the wall of which having, at spaced intervals cross sectionally rounded portions which provide pockets, and a split ring received in said poet/.ets and projected into said opening.
2. In a lgarment fastener, a sachet membei including rim which :-I lstantially `V-sha].ied in plan and which has pointed corners notched. a hexagonal plate constituting the body of the soc-liet having three of the edges thereof received in the rim and the spaces between the remaining edges and the notched portions of' the rim providing thread eyes, said body plate hziving` ai. central round opening and having portions which project into the opening, the said 5 body being slitted in n line with the ends of the said portions to permit of the said portions being rounded upon themselves to ]irovide pockets which eommimim e with Hw opening, und :t split elliptical ringreceived in the pockets sind partly projectingv info lo the opening, as und for the purpose sul', forth.
In testimony whereof I unix my signature. HENRIETTA BREWSTER SMITH.
