Application filed March a, Witt.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Far C. DARLING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Walton, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in supports, an object of the invention being to provide a device which may be conveniently attached to aboiler and which will serve as a support for clothes or similar articles to be dried by the heat of the boiler.
A further object is to provide a device of this character in the form of a circumferentially adjustable ring or hoop having a plurality of individual supports associated therewith and to provide improved means for adjusting the ring.
Another object is to provide a support of this character, which may be quickly attached to a boiler, which will be simple and practical in construction, strong and durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
Tn the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating my improved support in applied position;
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the hook carrying members 10;
. and
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the hoop 2, with parts broken away for clearness.
Referring in detail to the drawings, 1 represents a conventional type of upright ey indrical boiler and it is to such a boiler that my improved support is attached. 2 represents a split ring or band of resilient metal. The ring preferably comprises two arcuate sections such as 3 and A, joined together at their ends. Adjacent one end, the section 3 is provided with a series of slots or perforations, such as 5, in any one of which, a ton ue 6 on the end of the section A is selective y engageable. At their other ends the members 8 and A terminate in outwardly presented perforated lugs such as 7.
Aerial We. d lhfillld.
A screw 8 extending through the lugs is adjustable by means of a nut 9 to contract the ring 2, as will be readily understood.
The ring serves to support any desired number of hangers such as 10. The hangers are in the form of wooden strips provided at their upper ends with inwardly'and downwardly presented hooks 11, engageable over the hoop orring 2. The extremities 12 of the hooks 11 are parallel to the hangers so that the hangers are rigidly supported on the ring 2.
Wire hooks such as 13 are carried by the outer faces of the hangers l0 and preferably comprise lengths of wire having their ends attached to the hangers 10 and their intermediate portions bent to form upwardly presented hooks ll.
It will be apparent due to the circumferential adjustability of the ring or hoop 2, that any number of hangers may be conveniently supported by the ring.
Although l have illustrated one of the I preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In a device of the character stated, the combination with an elongate metal strip having parallel opposite sides adapted to be bent transverse to the width of the ring and so contracted to form a substantially closed hoop to encircle an upright cylindrical support and carrying means whereby the strip may be frictionally locked on the support at a predetermined height, of a hook including a backing member and a hook proper, the backing member having the shape of an inverted ll whereby the same may be booked at the bottom of the U over an edge of the strip with the arms of the ll on o posite sides of the strip, the backing member being of wood and the widthof the U being substantially equal to the thickness of the strip and the o posed faces of the arms being plane an parallel, whereby when the strip is loosened from its support support, the part of the metal strip which I and: then expanded to have a greater radius is embraced by the backing bites mto the of curvature, the backing member may be soft material of the wood acking to fric- 10 freely slid alon the strip for adjustment tionally lock the backing member at a pre- 5 thereon with re ation to a plurality of its determined point along the length of the fellows, and whereby when the strip is again strip. contracted and frictionally secured to its FAY CHASE DARLING.
